Hi guys, I’ve just got hold of a real nice ally fuel cap, going to polish it, however first I’ve taken it apart and trying to get the lock barrel out to make the ignition key fit it.. usually with barrels you put the key in and rotate to a mark and it pushes out. Unfortunately I can’t get it out. Does anyone know how to get it out? Thanks Dono

You have to pry the last clip on the cylinder at the bottom, There is one brass ring that stops the barrell popping out, Pry that in and it will pop out, also, I sometimes have to pop the key in and out of the barrel to get the barrel out... Hope that makes sense

Did a bit of research on YouTube looks like I’ll have to make a little pick from a hacksaw blade. Will try that

Like you I've looked at it a few times and never worked it out
Ignition and seat latch are a fiddle so I tend to buy a new genuine fuel cap then get the rest matched to it

Last night I looked out a fuel cap barrel from a barrel set I had
No wonder you can't see it, it's quite far down

Managed to put new lock in alloy cap. Took the cap apart fixed in vice then drilled the old lock (steady) , the large sleeve that sits over the bottom of the barrel fell out which gave me access to the very small brass clip you will see down in side , you need something thin to push this inwards, now your barrel should slide out. I’ve used the barrel from a new cap , fits perfectly in the alloy one🏍👍

Yep. You have to pry that last ring in with a pick. I’ve done a lot of caps, locks etc to get them all on the one key.

Ok all sorted please view YouTube video above for explanation. Also I managed what some people say is impossible. My barrel was a different type than the ignition key and barrel. Fortunately the casting guides in the barrel only go in about 5 mm so I dremeled tgem off as in pic above so the key would fit. Then I filed the brass bits flush with outside of barrel. And job done one working fuel cap with ignition key :-)
