Ok this is fo the much more knowledgeable than me ,I have a set of 31k forks with wasted tops and stems ,just about to get them stripped to send to allbike engineering to get the Stanchions nitride coated just for a different look,I am told there is a shuttle in the bottom of stanchions that has to be removed before coating process, what I need to know is this peened in or circlip ,if it's peened in when you remove it how do you get them back in ,would they have to be tack welded which is not my preference ,thought this was going to be straightforward, but not so sure now ,hope someone can clarify what's involved, thanks.

It's peeked in as far as I know
Usually the person doing the plating sorts that
I've never removed any over the years

I had this problem, when I stripped mine for a service I found the shuttle valve had seized, it would'nt rotate to do what its supposed to do, so I tried to remove it to see what was going on by chiseling the peen over but totally fooked the stanchion, in disgust with my shelf I slung it into the back of the draw where it still lurks to remind me not to mess with stuff that's beyond my skillset 😥 Would be interesting to see how it's done properly😃 When I get over it I'll get a new set from Norbo!!

Brooks suspension stanchions only ,£245 in gold or black Allbike engineering stanchions only ,£190 in gold or black to include the shuttle removed and refitted Stanchions must be almost perfect cond or will need rechroming first ,that's where it starts to get very expensive,so I have costed it for me to get them stripped by Suspension guy I use and sent to be done then rebuilt with new fluid and seals is not cost effective, best case scenario would be £300 that's stripped ,posted ,coated ,posted back, rebuilt.considering the forks I have are 31k in v good condition that have been refurbed with Wilbers springs ,gonna keep as is .thanks to dusty and others for making me see sense,
