Hi im new to the site today and im wondering if i can get some advise about which bike parts to use for an lc frame ypvs engine hybrid. I have sourced an f2 engine but thats as far as ive got. Which forks, wheels, brakes, swingarm is the best to use. I like the look of upside down forks, preferably at least 5 spoke wheels and not 3 spoke. Because i havent posted 5 times i cant see the classifieds so if anybody has suitable parts for sale, let me know.
Thanks, Mike

Mike go into the builds section and the finished bike section and do Some research for yourself, only you know what will look Right to you and what you want, then speak to the builders on the forum, gain advice and knowledge that way. If you aren’t too confident with the spanner’s go for an rgv250 front and rear end but be prepared to pay for it. The reason is they are fairly straightforward to build, yokes need a spacer rear end altered by nk racing or others. Or you can go wild it really comes down to personal choice oh and 10 posts soon comes up. Also post your location as forum members nearby are more than happy to chat. Good luck.

Hi Welcome to the forum Building either a hybrid or a standard bike is an expensive business unfortunately. Decide exactly what you want and then the cheapest way to gain parts is to buy as complete a bike as possible, keeping what you need and selling what you don't. Buying just parts is usually a very expensive way to build. An Lc frame with V5 can be £500 plus, usd front forks 250+, wheels 1-200 etc. It soon adds up. A nice hybrid build with everything done is probably 8-10k easily, likely more. Enjoy the forum Dusty

Personally they are my favorite, quick and easy to clean too. I've never owned or built an hybrid of anything, I admire the engineering and skill aspect but don't really get the other aspects,....if you want a fast great handling bike then just buy an R6 or whatever for half the price or less. The other thing you may want to consider is the future, how many other people are actually going to part with 8 or 10k for a bike that you have built to your own personal taste? If you have no plans on selling it, crack on, ride and enjoy I say.

The 8-10k is build cost, not necessarily what it's worth or what you could sell it for. Lc's were ripe for modification. How many stayed standard I wonder ? We modded them then, and we mod them now, and the hybrid scene is more popular than ever. Go your own way and build what you want, and enjoy the process - it gets very addictive Dusty

In general, parts for any aged vehicle nowadays aren't cheap I know so I understand how most builder/owners must feel but these bikes simply aren't worth the sum of their parts to the majority I'd say. Only build an hybrid or an original for that matter, if you are in it for the love of long term ownership/riding it I say.

All valid points but seriously though we all surely modded them back in the day. I don't think I ever saw a standard one ever. The norm was clock protectors or clip ons, Microns or Allspeed, and rear sets. Oh and jacking up the rear a bit. Probably ruined the handling but who cared? Just made you a better rider I think having to cope with that lol.
Thing is a hybrid will cost and lots as others have mentioned but for me it's just a natural evolution of the LC. If Yamaha made one today of course it would have USD forks 17" wheels fatter tyres etc so I guess we are doing the work they should have done...
Good luck with your build and get some pics up when you start it!

I wonder what the average age is for hybrid owners is , as like said back in the day most LCs was modified, mine was and that's why I wanted a hybrid when deciding to re- live my yoof so will the prices go up or down as we all get older , is there a next generation of LC lovers ? mart

Have fun with whatever you choose. The important bit is enjoyment. But there are 2 directions/motivations to Modding. A) is to genuinely increase the things performance capabilities b) make a bling bike. Too Often those are mutually exclusive goals, it's a tightrope act to manage both capably. example: big tires will reduce handling and even USD's will accentuate the frame's inadequacies.

How things change, at his age I had passed both tests.

I know it's been discussed loads on here, but build cost versus "value" are 2 things that often don't line up. It's a risky business building any bike for profit, and unless you are lucky enough to have a shed full of desirable spares, making money on a quality build is gonna be hard, if not impossible I think. There are differing standards in any build - some are just thrown together and others are well thought out with engineering to suit, but even the good bikes only appeal to a small minority of potential buyers. It's not about final "worth" for me - I build them because that's what I really like to do. Each one sells to fund the next one, and the process starts again. It's nice to get back what it cost to build, but there is no guarantee that will happen of course, and I never build them for profit - I build them coz I like building them ! It's my link to my youth, when I had bikes that I would ride and modify, make mistakes, re modify, ride and enjoy ! I don't do the riding now, but the builds keep me interested and busy. There are lots of possibilities with hybrids regards parts - that's the beauty of them for me - they all differ somehow, and time/money and a good engineering firm can do any type of modification. Just depends on what you want to achieve really Dusty

www.2moto.co.uk/products/2m400r.htmlMaybe not quite what you are thinking about ..more of another illustration of how many options are available. I have a shed full of parts due to me constantly changing my ideas. The more bits you have the harder the decision on what to build. My advice is to think three times and buy once. I would take the time to study the huge array of hybrids out there and sketch out on paper what you want to build and what you want to do with it once you,re done. I have spent a lifetime of dreaming about a Laverda Jota but now I realize that a KTM 690 is really the right bike for me . Hopefully I,ll get the hybrid started while I can still lift a spanner .it's really loads of fun and this is the best site to feed your passion. Welcome and good luck.

I've seen people spend many months and thousands of pounds modifying their bikes, only to then quickly get bored and be lucky to sell for 60% of what it cost them.
If you're a bit bored with what you have and want to modify it in the belief that you'll then be happy - it won't work, it's like putting a nagging wife in a new dress, you'll still want to get rid. There is another sub set that don't realise how much it will cost, so they get started and after 2-3yrs its finished but it cost 50% more than they thought it would and now they're fed up with it.
In my humble opinion, I wouldn't build a hybrid unless I planned to keep for 10yrs, for better or for worse. I've had mine for 7yrs, it's cost me £12k all in and I'm starting to wonder if it's time to sell because it makes me ride like an idiot and I don't want to get banned - I reckon at a big push I'd be lucky to get £7k back, so that's £5k down the shitter.

There's a different way to look at it Go to a bike shop and spend 12k on a new bike Decide after a few months you don't like it - You won't get 12k back from the shop Keep it 7 years then sell it and see how much more than 5k you have lost Your average second hand car will lose 1500 a year easy If you want a bike to hold value it has to be "factory" correct In 10 years time when all the 50ish year olds who have them now are done with bikes I reckon the value will drop Yes they will still have a value like any classic bike but I think the thing that will go against them is the sheer number of them around now Steve

Not many hobbies make money, period 🤫 You can spend loads of money on rods and bait then sit around like a middle aged gnome talking to yourself all day by a stagnant pond 🥴 or play in the cave with bikes and all the amenities you need close by😋 I know which I’d prefer Matt 🧸
