I did not know that, I can remember watching the movie when I was a kid fascinated by how they acheived the success they did
Barnes Wallis was the brains behind the operation if I remember rightly
i bought a book back in February about it, havenāt had the chance to read it yet, still to finish the story behind the film about D Day, whose anniversary is on June 6th I believe
Thanks for the reminder

Cool post Steve, ta for that. I cant believe it was so long ago now.
As a kid I was enthralled by the Dam Busters and always wondered if Barnes was one my distant relations, perhaps one day the internet will tell me that is true lol What amazes me is that back then his reputation hung by a thread on each thing he thought up and tried, he really needed these ideas to work in order to have funding for the next ideas etc.
Interestingly, my Dad worked at Vickers in the 50s and got to spent time in Barnes' old office, I reckon he would have sat there and tried to soak up the vibes. Hard not to try when youre a young design engineer and share your surname with the brilliant man who's name is on the door.

Ha. that depends on when you last watched the film ! The name has been dubbed over so as not to offend snowflakes ! Interestingly, "black person" was the codeword Guy Gibson radioed back to confirm the breach in the Mohne dam. That part hasn't been dubbed from the film apparently. Dusty

And, interestingly again ! I just typed in the dogs name, that rhymes with "digger", and it's automatically changed it to "black person" ! My Pc is truly Pc !! Dusty

Haha, Yeah I was being a bit cheeky. A mate has a black dog like "digger". But called him merlin.

Hi, Wing Commander Guy Penrose Gibson, VC, DSO & Bar, DFC & Bar had a dog called N I G G E R or sometimes he called it Nigsy. The thing I am wondering, and cant find any info on is, did Nigsy have an Iron Cross ? If you zoom into the various photos of Nigsy online, it does look like he has an Iron Cross. I wonder what the story is behind Nigsy,s Iron Cross ? Steven. PS, I recently found out that Guy Gibson wasnt the only participant of the Dams Raid to receive a VC, there were eight VC,s in total awarded. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/black person_(dog) ( I thought other posters had changed the wording, I understand now it was the PC) www.dambusters.org.uk/the-dam-raids/awards/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iron_Cross
