So the saga on my forks and calipers goes on, this is costing more than anything on the bike.... I now have a set of calipers that seem to fit but they are 8mm fitting bolts and the fork legs are 10mm, so I need to get some shouldered bolts made, I dont think a sleeve will be strong enough on the caliper fixings. Any suggestions who might be able to do these, I like stainless but need to be strong enough, or titanium.
Thanks, Phil

Could you get 10mm bolts, and turn the sticky out bits (once through the forks) down to 8mm & rethread?
If so, I could do that for you on my lathe, or indeed anyone with a lathe local to you.

Is there enough meat on the calipers to tap them to 10mm?
If so I’d say this is the best and easiest way.
Don’t like the idea of 8mm caliper bolts myself.

I've volunteered to have a go at turning some M10 stainless ones down to M8 and re-cutting a thread.
Just hope the stainless isn't too hard.
I'll try & post a picture when done, but PhotoF***it have cancelled my account. Will have to look at setting something else up.

Make sure you get A4 stainless as this is closer to the shear strength of mild steel. A2 stainless is actually weaker than mild steel. At M8 you need all the strength you can get. Jon

Thanks Jon, good info. I'm not so happy about doing this but I'm fed up with buying callipers that dont fit.

I will look, I can't imagine they can be that thin there, they are late GSX calipers, I have no idea why Suzuki would have changed from 10 to 8mm.

Tapping the callipers would be my 1st choice, much easier to do.
Not sure I'd worry about the sheer strength of the bolts too much, the fork legs & callipers are fairly thin aluminium, and the disks are bolted to the ali wheels with 5 or 6 m6 bolts. I can't see the calliper bolts being the weakest link in that chain. That's before you consider the bolts holding the 2 part callipers together and the pad pins, some of them are a bit weedy.
I think my modern Triumph is M8 calliper bolts, the whole bike is covered in M5 where M6 would be expected, shaving the odd gram here & there. It all adds up I suppose. Pity about the rider.
