I've got some nice Royal Doulton ornaments, I probably wouldn't post about them on a bike forum but seeing as this is a thread about expensive ornaments that have no purpose then I thought I'd offer it up.

Aye, I hear you. I don't get why someone would buy a machine and not use/run it even, that just doesn't make sense to me.

it would need them dodgy main bearings changing too while the crank seals are being changed, apparently the orignal ones used to split in two after a 20k miles😱

Bit like one of those bottle of wines that change hands for stupid money and no one is ever going to taste it. That said I would love to own that 500 though and rag the tits off it.

Working on it Jon, my understanding is the owner bought it new in 1984 took it home in a van and left it in his front room. There are a load more autographs on the seat cowl, I've been told he has just bought a brand new R1M fully loaded and plans to do the same with it.

What a tit. Never understood that mentality. Like everyone else said the engine will need a rebuild (if it ever gets ridden). Bikes like that need to be ridden, and hard. Not left in a bloody lounge.

Alex And to do the same with an R1M,....he's obviously 'a couple of cans short of a six pack' and got too much spare cash.

Total waste of a bike, the engine needs new crank seals now at the very least I'm on the fence with stuff like this. If that RD500 looks good on the outside, without any corrosion or perished rubber, then it should look just as good on the inside - but I suppose you never know. I don't imagine the factory built them expecting them to sit unused for 35yrs, so it's unlikely any lubricant used during engine assembly would last that long, but I've seen some bikes stored for long times and not have any issues - I have a TDR250 that was sat for 20yrs in a bone dry warehouse abroad and when I opened the engine to check it everything was still minty fresh with no problems. I put a new top end on a YPVS engine last year (including all new PVs and seals) knowing it wasn't going to be used for a couple of years at least and I was generous with the molyslip assembly paste, so it should just fire up without having to do anything, but I don't know how the new PV seals will last in that stuff.

Anyone see the Grand Designs episode were some bloke (more money than any lick of sense) had bolted a 916 to the lounge wall. Utter cretin.

that must of been a shade scary on the m1😮 Think I was lucky! Just felt like the ignition switch had been turned off and I crused to a silent halt on the hard shoulder, damn near fell over when I tried to re start it, kickstand was solid Happy days😂

The bearing issue is the cut for the locating shim, its right over where the race runs and when old and heated it can crack. I dont think there is a better version out there, you just need to catch it before it fails etc.

If I had the dosh I would have a 350lc parked in my house amongst other bikes just for looking at. But for each I had parked I would have one for the road if you have the cash why not. Man cave with a bar fridge mega telly with road racing on a loop pool table and couple of cool classics. Yep do me that would.

A thought tho... if the groove is now offset to the original the only way you can fit this is with bearing lock I guess as the locating groove is no longer doing that job etc.

That would be the ultimate man cave then. Lol
