Had the LC paint 6 months now Looked perfect at first so all stored away safely in the conservatory Its been on the bike a few weeks now and tonight was the first time I had it in the garage with the fluorescent lights on fitting the mirrors and noticed this strange patch You can feel tiny rough bits in the paint like tiny bubbles. Didn't notice them the other day in the daylight Steve

Could be filler underneath having small pinholes in it , trapping air under primer after time air makes its way to surface hence small bubbles, could also have had condensation in the air line when painted causing little bubbles, does it have filler in that area? Was it bare metal before painting or over the top of old paint , sometimes old paint can react with new paint being put over the top of it?

The plastic Buell tanks bubbled but was the petrol fumes leaching through the plastic itself
Like Norbo said is there a repair under that area ?
Has it only just had fuel in the new tank ?

If its a new tank I would think a bit of condensation in the airline when being painted, if its water based base coat sometimes if its not fully dry you get little blisters like that cos the water has to escape upwards, if its celly base coat the same if its not fully dry before lacquering?

Likes like micro blister to me
You get that when there is damp in the air when painted or water in the compressor will corse this ,,
Micro blisters always come out over time from damp or water in compressors

Thanks Pete
I didn't notice them 2 weeks ago when I fitted the bodywork and not last week when I put some fuel in it and ran it round the block
Only tonight but as said it was in daylight before and I wasn't looking that closely
I've emailed the company so I've at least raised the issue

It can take a week or 6 months, just one of those things with paint work, thats why most proper car restoration bodyshops take a long time doing paint work, filler sinks over time , primer sinks over time , moisture comes out over time, the longer you leave something the better the end result, to me it looks like a bit of water in the airline, it happens in even the best bodyshops, It shouldn’t take too much to remedy

Steve, I had the same happen on my bike months after being painted. Problem is exactly what fellow 3tj6 describes. He is right on the money on this one.

No that easy as it’s base and lacquer probably flat completely back and start again That's my worry, weeks of delay as decals will need ordered The bike owner has agreed to come to mine, see and ride the bike then I'll remove the tank for repair and he'll take the bike away I'll return the tank to him when sorted Need a loan of a tank really Steve

Dropped the tank back at the painter today
Strangely with it being in the warm car the blisters reduced to barely being there
Painter reckons they are between the 2 coats of lacquer so he'll flatten it back tomorrow and relacquer to see if it sorts it
Being decent enough about it so I'll wait and see how it goes

Just spoke to the painter
The micro blistering is all sorted now but there was another blemish right on the centre line just above the seat edge
It was a little line like a tiny hair about 1mm wide by 2mm long
He is sorting it but warned it is right on the centre weld of the tank so no guarantee it's not actually fuel vapour under the paint from a porous weld
Well I shat myself at that point and told him to stick a liner in it
This thing is never fecking ending
