Got a Bristan 1901 MT1200-2 shower mixer and think the thermostat is fecked and I was going to get at it to have a look but can't see how the feckin cover comes off , unless it has corroded on ?
Any suggestions :-)

Exposed shower. Tap comes off then the cover then some circlips then it unscrews then it wont go back together as all the seals are either swollen or cracked.... Assuming you have either a pumped system or a combi boiler. If the thermostat is knackered get any bar shower with the same centres. Takes 10 mins to swap. It's not the shower valve that's (most) important but the diameter of the hose and the quality of the shower head.

Yes exposed shower The tap comes off via a Phillips head screw but it's the chrome cover behind that, before the circlips, it won't budge presuming it just pulls off ?
It's a Worcester combi boiler
The centres I'm getting 140mm but a lot seem to be 150mm but seen a few which can be adjusted
You may be right feckin it all off and replacing but what to get ?
Feel free to PM me LOL

The next bit you are looking at should screw off. It might release the shower valve as well, in that case you will get very wet very quickly !!!!
Any Miras or Triton bar shower around the £100 mark will be OK. Prices go up based on the riser, hose and head, not the shower valve. Stick a £500 shower valve on and is it 5 times better than a £100 version. Not really
What I do is buy a cheap ish valve, even £30 ones can be OK or something on offer from screwfix/plumbase/cityplumbing throw the hose and head in the bin, then go buy a top quality riser, longer hose and fully adjustable head. Without a trade card Screwfix is as good as any, plus they accept returns with no haggling.
If none of that works for you buy a like for like Bristan

If you are just wanting to renew the thermostat no 12 in the diagram I am sure you do it from the back of the shower.Disconnect the hot and cold then take out the 2 grub screws on the backplate and remove the shower then you need a large screwdriver to remove the large circular blank .Once removed the old thermostat will fall out in bits then install new thermostat it should take about 15mins .I could be wrong but I think that's how it's done i might even have a new one kicking around

Got it apart but what a shite design !!!! I put a large jubilee clip around the chrome cover sides and spayed white vinegar on to dissolve the corrosion and managed to wriggle it off Right at the back where the little thermostat is, is the shuttle /piston assembly and the little plastic legs on this have broke So did the thermostat seize and take out the plastic legs when the hot/cold tap was adjusted , chicken and egg and all that ! So £30 for the shuttle/piston assembly or £50 including thermostat and you thought bike parts were a rip off !
