My neighbor just got nailed by the traffic cops for a small number plate on his Ktm 690 supermoto ,they were going in the opposite direction but still did a three pointer on a busy road just to hit him with a £100 fine,he is now selling it as they threaten his fire arms certificate which he needs for his work

Leeches, sucking money from people’s pockets. Just been nicked for doing 76mph on dual carriageway,if I was driving a camper van nothing would be done(as it in the 10%+2 mph allowance) but because I won’t fit side windows in my panel van(has bed and cooker in back) because of security ,I only allowed to do 60mph so 76mph is deemed to fast to even get a speed awareness course(10%+9mph=75mph) 1 mph over that so the fuc@ers are giving me points!!!!! What makes a 3050kg camper van safe to drive at 70mph whereas my 2000kg panel van is deemed dangerous!!!! Fuc@ers the lot of them!!!

The point about whether or not a panel van has windows in it seems crazy to me,....it should be more to do with if a vehicle is overloaded?
Yes, many delivery firms load their vans to the ceiling and are no doubt overweight but it's also easy to overload a camper, travel with filled water tanks and suitcases of clothes for each occupant soon add up.

My understanding of it is that if the vehicle started life as a van (we run berlingos and they did) even if you had the car version it would be the lower speed limit, as opposed to say a fiesta or punto van that started as a car so can't see that side windows would have helped you to be honest.

If you fit out your panel van with bed, cooker and water storage and fit one or two side windows. Simply send pictures to DVLA as proof of conversion and they change the taxation class from panel van to camper van issue new V5 and then as if by magic your very same van can safely travel at 60mph on single carriageways (I’m stuck at 50mph) and 70mph on dual carriageways (I’m stuck at 60mph) Strangely my panel van can do 70mph on motorways, same as other vehicles, but I’m restricted on single and dual carriageways? ? Very unjust regulations, but will they change it,will they fu@k,because it’s a money maker for the leeches,no safety involvement whatsoever!!!!😡😡😡

It’s not that easy to just put windows in the back and think you can do 70mph i done this to mine around 8 years ago ,bed sink windows the lot and was fairly easy to re reg with dvla as you have change to a camper ,, photos needed ,, But now it’s not so easy as you have to take to your local vosa for a inspection for them to change your vehicle from one to the other so they can see the conv has been done right ,, i had to do this not so long ago to change a Luton van to a recovery truck as I used to convert them is all now becoming a pain in the ars so I don’t bother no more

I have been told that those vosa people are very awkward to deal with and that it's best to avoid taking a vehicle/dealing with them period, if that's possible.

For like the transporters, it just photos of all the bits that are on the list as well as pics of the reg plate.
One I am working on in my van is having fitted a (proper) row of seats in the back, and side windows, I still need rear windows then should be ok for car limits as a dual purpose vehicle.

Pisser and id be fooked off as well but a non endorsable motoring fine wouldnt really see him in bother at work, I think your mate may have over reacted by thinking of selling the bike...just put a full size plate on is the simple n cheap answer, its not the bikes fault..!

I would be interested in the threatening his firearms certificate? This is irrelevant to a motoring fine. Did they say 'oh and this will affect your firearms licence'? They obviously did a body check to know he had a licence. If so they were v naughty and in my opinion out of order. That could be deemed to be oppressive. Or has he assumed it will affect him? Just saying.

Back to the original post, WTF anyone dicks around with number plate style, layout or size is beyond me, why give a kid in a hi-viz the chance to relieve you of your hard earned?. As for the w*nkers that move numbers & letters around to make it say something nobody else has a clue about, they should be fined double for being so ferkin' stupid. And relax

They informed him he was a fire arm certificate holder he didn’t know yet he’s only just applied they’ve been out and did all the checks but he hadn’t heard yet , i don’t know exactly what was said but they mentioned it!

So my point is how is it relevant? It’s not a criminal offence it is road traffic legislation, if he wasn’t being aggressive or had been spotted in suspicious circumstances etc just stinks of oppressive interaction. Is this up and over the border? Recently worked with some police Scotland detectives and was surprised by their attitudes.

Only conversations done pre registration are subject to type approval and even then if the converter has already had the conversion type approved they can issue an N1 certificate and no inspection is necessary
