Had these done the other day and I was surprised how good they turned out. This is the first time I have ever had anything vp'd so have nothing to compare to. What do other members think of the result? Thanks, Aid. DS

Yeah like the others have said, looking at the photos they have missed loads of places. I would have had a moan.

Hate to say it but mine were immaculate, you do need to degrease before hand and they should blank everything, but i think they could be better.

Is that definitely a vapour blasted finish ? I ask as mine always look like Markhoopey's. I pay £50 for a set of crankcases (London area) Dusty

Mmmmmm? Thanks to everyone for their input. It's down to what you expect, what you want and how much you are prepared to pay. I also think that preparation is very important. I have to say that I think they have turned out good considering what they like before hand. Agreed though, there is room for improvement, compared to Hoopy's.

Mine turned out better than that afraid to say and they were truly awful when I left them to get blasted. £30.

It depends on the blast media
I know a place that can only get that kind of result but he uses a very fine glass bead
He is a polishing business so not really trying to be rougher as it will get buffed with a mop and compound after
The better finishes will have a rougher media or even aluminium oxide

Hi Where would you guys recommend to go then (Midlands/East Midlands area)? Crankcases are always very telling when it comes to how good the job has been done. Do you mask off the gasket faces and crankcase mouths/should they do it for you, as it's hard to tell from the photos?
Thanks.

Nothing gets masked as it should not remove any material from the casings
I use f and j and just post each way
Got a load waiting to go off to them

Just fit bolts into all the blind, threaded holes. It saves effort afterwards trying to rinse media out of them, although you should always rinse well when you get them home to make sure nothing is left. The media is very fine, almost powdery, but coupled with the water pressure it makes for a very effective, but non damaging cleaning medium. You can alter the finish with vapour blasting depending on whether you want a more matt or satin finish. Parts come out looking like they have been sprayed with silver paint - that's why I wondered if Aid's had actually been vapoured - it doesn't look an even finish like the pic Markhoopey has added. I think Aid's look ok, but just not like a vapoured finish I've seen before. Dusty
