Anyone know why Yamaha designed this model not to have one from start?
Personally I don't think that I've ever owned a water cooled vehicle that didn't have one so this intrigues me.

I'm I being stupid here or were they fitted in some countries?
The design seems to suggest it was in the original design hence why there is space for one and a bypass circuit.
May have been removed due to the size of the radiator to stop seizures.
Engine heats up, stat opens, a mass of cold water flows into the engine and quickly cools it but pistons are still hot.
At least if it takes ages to warm up it's stable
It happens on the ypvs when you fit a large rad hence fitting the 50 degree stat to reduce the effect
Probably why the ypvs had a smaller rad
