Evening men. Which of the bearings in the engine should be replaced by genuine Yamaha ones and which if any can be sourced from elsewhere for cost? Also does anyone know bearing id numbers to purchase from elsewhere? Thanks

It's usually the bearing behind the clutch that has to be genuine
125 or 350?

Not so silly that question.. Since Yama doesn’t produce any bearings but you pay premium for a Yama sticker
I recently purchased gearbox bearings for my RGV from simply bearings and I was in for a surprise. Sprocket bearing from Suzuki is priced at 30-40 euros, same size/spec bearing from Simply Bearings came for 8 euro.
But when I removed the rubber seal from the one side of the bearing I noticed that the cage on the new bearing is plastic where the old one is steel.. Now do I get a new suzuki bearing just to find out these are superseded with plastic cage bearings or do I stick with what I have?
Kind of highjacked the thread here mellow..

Edit; both bearings are Koyo, Simply bearings support told me that Koyo has stopped producing steel cage bearings for the size I’m looking for...

Be Very sure you Do Not buy a 'Made in China' bearing. Koyo bearings have been Plastic Caged for years .. since late 80s I believe .. Yesss it's a genuine Improvement. Surprised you can still get (or even Want) steel cages

Steve +1 Although by the time you’ve bought this the other bearings aren’t that much to save on so easier to pay the Yamaha ticket for piece of mind. That said, are you sure they need replacing? Crank ones I can understand while you have it apart as they spin at high speeds with little lubrication. Might be good to check first. My mate is also an engineer and has rebuilt his LC several times of the many years of ownership. I’m sure he said his gearbox bearings had done around 100,000 KPM before he replaced them. Food for thought. I have kept a set of bearings from my first LC after replacing them from a running bike. I also have new sets. I use these to compare to any engine I strip down. My latest YPVS build had unknown mileage on when I stripped it, but they felt as unworn as the new ones, so I reused them. Jon

I found the best thing to do is try to carefully inspect the bearings and races for marks etc. SKF have a machine which can measure the vibrations of the bearings when in operation. This will then tell you the condition of your bearings.

Surprised you can still get (or even Want) steel cages My RGV was build on 1992 and it does have steel caged Koyo bearings. Don’t be surprised, I just want what’s right for the motor. All the other bearings I bought for the gearbox are koyo and steel caged..
