Can the wiring harness on a 31k ignition switch be simply " unscrewed " and fitted to an lc switch so as to gain a bit more reach ... Tks..

you can swap these around, so long as the connections are the same. Pull the bottoms off both switches and remove the oval-ish plate that has the switch parts in it, if they look the same (and I think they will be) and the soldering of the wires is the same then yes you can.
Its not exactly, unscrewing the wires, but more dismantling the ignitions and swapping the parts.

So i should have really asked if anyone has fitted a current ( new) lc ignition switch to a 31k..Is there enough " give " in the loom to meet the shorter wired lc switch..

So i should have really asked if anyone has fitted a current ( new) lc ignition switch to a 31k..Is there enough " give " in the loom to meet the shorter wired lc switch.. Yes I have fitted lc locksets to lc2 31k ypvs. They are fine as the connection is still in the headlight The 31k f/n is a different kettle of fish as the wiring is a lot longer due to the connection being under the tank. These ones have a burgundy connector. You can swap the lower sections with the wiring between models as long as both are genuine. I tried it on a pattern one and the degrees of rotation on the switches are slightly different. The only other difference between early and late switches is the early has 6 wires in a 6 way plug The later has 5 wires in the 6 way plug and one separate bullet. Easy to fit a spade and fit in the plug Just make sure the wire colours all match up. Had one once that may have been 125 and 2 wires were reversed. Knew something was wrong when you turned it to "P" and the pv servo whirled Steve
