I know a few members here bought from the latest batch of Lc swingarms made by Metmachex. I've had an issue with mine and wondered if anyone else has too. I'm trying to gauge numbers so I can inform Tamsyn at Metmachex as they didn't realise that some of their sizings were wrong. Basically, my Lc arm was slightly too narrow to fit in the frame. I didn't give it much thought at the time, and used some washers I had as shims and it was fine. I also ordered an Lc arm for an Rgv wheel and that arrived recently. There was a fair gap this time. Where the swingarm bolts to the frame. An Lc measures 200mm across this pivot point. My arm measured 196mm, so I had a 4mm gap.I measured 3 Lc standard arms - all 200mm with end caps, so the Met arm was definitely narrow. Metmachex measured one of the arms they have in stock, and its 199.90mm, which would be correct. They've supplied 2 x 1mm shims so far, but I still need another 2. I just wondered if anyone else that bought recently had this issue ?? Dusty

Looks like they've measured without the end caps? Then not tried them in an actual bike and just sent them out?
That's not great for something that expensive.

Hey Dusty
I Had To Pinch 2 Shims Out Of Another Arm I Had To Make Mine Fit Snug . I Just Thought it Was My Frame That Was Out Of Tolerance Slightly .

not the same as your issue but it is to do with not fitting correctly. i bought my arm back in the early 80`s and the 2 vertical uprights rubbed against the inner mudguard when i sat on the bike.

Im Pretty Sure They Were 1mm , Basically The Same Shims From Another Metmachex Arm , Nice Fit Then Even When The Frame Was Powdered . Dave

Might be a good thing as there must be a tolerance on the frames
When I fitted my nk adapted banana arm I had to use a rubber mallet
Fine now it's in but a Bugger to fit.
Don't know if it's helpful but F/N/R ypvs have shims under the end caps, can check the size if anyone wants

Being undersize is not a bad thing, as some people may have a frame that is squashed in. Perhaps offering shims to suit would be a good option.

I purchased 2 arms recently, the first fitted perfectly, a nice snug fit. The second was approx 3mm narrow & after spending £6.50 on a selection of shims from eBay it now fits fine.

A couple of shims ,and when you tighten it up the frame will pull in. I had a gap similar to yours, when fitting a SZR660 arm to ypvs frame in my air cooled hybrid and I machined to much off the bearing tube(my mistake, silly old fool)so that what I did.👍

Dusty Mine is the same as yours and am going to have to get some shims made up I spoke to Nigel at nk and he said to try to achieve 199.5mm overall it is a bit of a pain as it’s a real a.lach for me as I don’t have any facilities to measure it properl so will have to take it somewhere

Mine didn’t fit either, just got some shims off eBay,thought it was all part & parcel of fitting after market parts. The hassle I’m having trying to fit Tarozzi rear sets😡.

A bit loose is way better as getting a tight one in is a right bugger !

Hi Yea, I agree, loose is better and then use shims, but until I pointed it out they thought all the arms were the same width (199.90) which obviously they aren't. I'm not moaning about it, just trying to gauge how many are loose and how many aren't, as theoretically, they should all be exactly the same. I wonder if they have had a batch of pivot tubes that are slightly too short ? Dusty

Sorry but Yamaha made thousands all to a close tolerance , ok you can shim but the amounts being talked about are ott.Cranking the spindle to pull in frame NO, that is a bodge . John

I think its good you asked the question Dusty, plenty of people will have bought these and stuck them on top of their wardrobes and other storage spots for when they build that project, few will have test fitted them.

I've had a perfect fit with JMC arms on my marsbar and Z1100R. With Metmachex however I had to machine down the spindle a small amount to fit my Z1000j (back in 1988 ish) and the chain kept hitting the top of the lower brace. Obviously Metmachex have come on a lot and look beautiful well made arms but at over £600 surely they should be pretty spot on. Saying all this whenever I've fitted after market parts to 80's bikes there has always been some minor adjustments to get everything to fit.

I've just been looking at these arms and for what they cost id be very disappointed if they were so poorly made and have such big gaps . but im sure if they knew they'd rectify there tooling ? but then again where's the quality control ? each one should be checked surely ? just my two penneth . Good Afternoon, Just to let you all know it has come to light that we need to send out shims to all that last ordered the LC Swingarms. I will go through the list and ensure I send some out. Apologies for any inconvenience and thanks to Dusty for bringing this issue to our attention. Regards Tamsyn Metmachex Swingarms LTD

Too little? Too late? These are EXPENSIVE arms. Likely not much wrong with the quality control of the Coin traded for the product
