When putting my 250 LC together I decided the standard calliper looked a bit weedy and put a R1 blue spot on, using an adapted from NK Racing. I am using the stock master cylinder (after a rebuild). Problem is, the brakes are still sh*t.
Do I need a different master cylinder?

Should be a massive improvement
What's the disc like?
I had an rgv set up once that was crap. New discs were a revelation

You need a proper master cylinder. A 5/8 pump; Any brembo from a single disk bike like the Aprilia RS125, will give a good feel to it. The advantage of the brembo is it comes with an attached mounting bracket for the reservoir

Somethings wrong, very wrong, All my conversions will lock the wheel up without any effort, The brake feedback is excellent, They are the best upgrade you can do to your brakes, My 2 350 YPVS use the an FZ8 master so I can fit the OEM mirror, Also, I did need to bed the brake pads on one of my 500s before they started to really work. Oh, And all my levers are solid, zero squishy feel...

I currently have a 5/8 cylinder on my LC with TZR running gear and single blue spot. The feel is very wooden. I’m going to put a 1/2 on in the summer. I’ll let you know how I get on. Jon

I agree Jon, 1/2 would be better matched I would think.

Bit of shameless promotion here... I've been running this www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113575940031With a blue spot on my FZR forks, with 320mm single disc, and it stopped no problem, 1 finger only required. If anyone on here wants it, they can have it for £15 posted, I'll cancel the auction.

Pad material can make a big difference too. I would try Bendix MF pads.
I am using a single Bluespot with a 320mm disk.
I went from 5/8" 350LC master cylinder to 14mm TDR250 master cylinder, but was still wooden, so went to 1/2" master cylinder, which was a little better. 11mm may be the way to go....

tacky, what nrake upgrade did you fit to the 500? Did the Bluespot Jon, NK make caliper adapters.. I have them off at the moment, I just fitted all the oem brakes, I just got them all rebuilt and refurbed and wanna bleed them and make sure they work..

Thanks for alll the replies.
It has been bled properly, there is no squishyness, just a lack of power and feel. The disc is the original one that came on the bike. It looks fine, is straight and within tolerance. The pads are those that came with the calliper so I may try changing those first. That said, the wooden feeling makes me suspect that the master cylinder isn’t right. Is the standard M/C on a 250 1/2”?

Yes, standard 250LC one is 1/2". The size is usually on the master cylinder.

I'd think cb250g5 's 11mm nissin is an even better fit choice Master cyl. than even a 1/2" one on a single caliper

When playing with these it does pay to have a few options. On my XT500 with Brembo 4 pot I used a KTM 12mm, but 1/2 is about 12.7, so very close, Id have used that if it was all I had to see what it was like.

Rather than change the master cylinder, get some one with big b@lls to pull the lever
