after stripping down my lc2 I just bagged and tagged everything as usual. so I come to reassembly with a new clutch cover and come to the oil pump.
ive noticed after the pin and cog there is a part that's called a washer lock which went on before the circlip(number 29 on fowlers oil pump section) this was missing from my oil pump assembly so do I need this as ive seen a few rebuilds online that doesn't include this they just put the circlip on. its obviously there for a reason so why are people omitting this part?
many thanks

You do need this so order it from your local Yama dealer.
The least it does is keep the cog in the correct position relative to the pin and protect it from being worn as it contacts the cirlcip. I would also fit a new cog if it looks old and brittle.
Oil pump cog failure of any kind will cause havoc in your engine.

The early pumps didn’t have the lock washer just a circlip.

My early pump has only the circlip. Norbo sells a kit - e clip, new pin and the locking tab washer - about £4.50 for the kit, and I retro fitted the lock washer - ensures the e clip doesn't come off in use. Dusty
