Good spot. Good idea. These are are the sort of engineering alternatives I like, wish I had an engineering back ground to execute them.

I like it and seeing how much the gear shafts cost now, a good solution

The seal for the Lc and the pv is the same part number so I would imagine it should fit. Dusty

Great to see other options to such problems, anyone going to try it out?

This would be ideal for a numbty like me who went to the trouble of getting the groove welded up and dressed on the shaft and then did nothing with the casing..😩

Shave a few mm off to keep moving the seal and have a gear selector shaft for life !

I think Stan Stephens knocked up something similar up and talked about it in one of his articles, its a fab idea anyway and will hopefully save many people the time/money of rebuilding an engine to correct it.

In the Ebay advert the Neutral switch cover was cracked. Wondering IF that oil leak... was misdiagnosed as a clutch shaft leak ?

Hi Mikee, excellent engineering, don't suppose you would do me a gear lever modification would you?

The kit an Ebay could be even better if he made it slightly wider so a double lip seal could be used.

You'd need to shorten the nylon spacer between the crankcase and the outer cover no?

You would, or use a Pv sleeve which is shorter anyway. Dusty

Or just make it a 2 pc part that replaces the old nylon bit

just ordered one ; I will let you know how I get on . I rebuilt my engine two years ago in the summer ; I wanted it done as quick as possible to get it back on the road ; so I didn't bother doing the "usual fix" . so now I have a constant small drip

Great, it will be good to know how you get on with it. A cheap, easy fix, compared to an engine strip alternative ! Dusty

Great, it will be good to know how you get on with it. A cheap, easy fix, compared to an engine strip alternative ! Dusty plus the good thing is you can install it with the selector shaft in situ ; I have just had awful problems installing a new clutch ; that casing has been on and off several times so I really did not want to too remove it again

I have just fitted one ; I was shocked at the slack in the shaft ;the poor old seal didn't stand a chance . All of the slack has now gone and so far no seeping. BUT it is VERY close to the chain ; so hopefully it wont cause a problem

...and if you have a wobbly shaft, this adapter should also have a nice bush fitted to control the play and not wear the aluminium.
Sounds like a little machining job for someone to make some improved versions with double lip seals and a bush fitted.
