In a quandry with the little RD build. The rear sprocket is an LC one and about 8.5mm thick. I need it machined down to match the front (5.5mm). Clearly a little needs to come off of both sides to keep the tapers on the tips of the sprocket. Local engineers wanted a small fortune. I don't have any fortune lol. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Alex

Speak to b and c express
They will either have one or make one out a blank
What size chain is supposed to be suited to the front sprocket?

Just let me know
Best wishes Al

Yes, probably need a 420 rear blank sprocket machined up to suit the LC wheel but I can’t imagine the alignments are spot in either. Going to need an offset of a few mm somewhere.

Alan has kindly offered to do it. He will trim the edge of the LC sprocket so it keeps it's original thickness and therefore will align with the RD gearbox! I can't thank him enough...

As 4LO4ever states above, it will not work.
It’s not just the width that is different. The teeth will be smaller on a 420 sproket.
Put the sprockets next to each other an see.

I also can’t think that the offset can be correct. If the LC sprocket is basically in the same position as it would be wrt the swingarm when in an LC then that would require the offset from centreline of the bike to the face of the drive sprocket on the RD50 engine to be the same as same dimension on an LC engine. With the two engines being such diferent sizes I can’t possible see how that could be anywhere close.

Alex, we are talking about the link to link pitch. The 420 chain has shorter distance between links, so it needs a corresponding pattern on the sprocket. So 420 chain needs 420 sprocket end of. To get one to fit the LC carrier you will need to just get a blank machined to fit the wheel. That sprocket company does it all the time, but sort out the offset at the same time as that might be able to fully or partially accommodated in some way.

Chains are imperial. In 1/8" bits.
A 520 chain is 5/8" between rivets and 2/8" wide. So a 530 is the same pitch but 3/8" wide.
A 420 is 4/8" between rivets, so wouldn't fit on a 5/8" sprocket.
