Just got a parking fine through the door from UKPC, the fine is £100 my wife left the car in a free car park while she went for a meal with her pals, th car was parked from 18:10 to 21:46 the car park was empty ( now we know why) as the shops were shut, surly this isn’t legal she would have been cheaper parking on the double yellows

Can't just ignore them now and hope they will go away, go to pepipoo.com and ask on there, very knowledgeable people with regard to parking notices.

That I believe is a private parking company so you have a good chance of overturning it, I used the PCN letter template on the moneysavingexpert website to appeal one around this time last year , they overturned it without a quibble.. www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/parking-ticket-appeals/

Check out the legalities of parking fines on private land
Our local town centre introduced a 4 hr max but the local office staff parked all day
There's something about private companies having no legal right to fine you when parked on private property
Only public/council areas are enforceable
I know it's hard to ignore in case it flares up though
Take legal advice

I have been to though this situation recently, first step is to contact the landowner as they have the ability to have the charge cancelled explain your circumstances and the fact you had brought trade to a local business. Don't get into any correspondence with the company who issued the charge at this point. And yes I had the charge cancelled without contacting the company that issued the invoice.
These charges are enforceable so don't ignore it despite what tinternet says.

Even in Scotland I believe there is no such thing as private land.my mate didn’t pay his they sent six letters then stopped,I’m going to seek advice first £100 is daylight robbery for a legally parked car

You have not received a fine, it is a invoice for parking. Lots of info out there but I had mine cancelled in a couple of minutes talking to the landowner.

I read something a while back on another forum that someone contested this type of ticket with a defence that the fine should reflect the disadvantage (out of pocket) by the company the parking warden ultimately works for. In this case the parking is free and as the carpark was empty and the shops were shut no one was disadvantaged even though she may have outstayed her free hours etc. In this event they suggested an admin charge might be the only acceptable fee, and offered 10 quid, which was accepted.
FWIW With this defence they also argued that overstaying even when the carpark was busy a non issue as the next 2 hours slot would be free anyway, hence the disadvantage was nil.
Food for thought? Im sure this is discussed on a proper parking fines forum somewhere.

My wife has had two of these and we’ve ignored all the correspondence. Got several letters threatening court action but nothing for the last three months.

Things have changed, and ppc can and do chase for payment through the court's, its a chance you take if you decide to ignore. Some do some don't.

Found a legal site on this last night
There is no law in Scotland regarding parking fines on private property
They prosecute under breech of contract as in when you left the car park you agreed to the conditions on the parking notices
You do not need a signature in Scotland to form a legally binding contract
Yes A lot don't bother actually going to court and just threaten but some have started
What's the signage like in the car park? How is it lit? Was it dark when she arrived?
The old letter to the owner is meant to help in a lot of cases
As Jonw said the fine should reflect lost business revenue

funnily enough I've just had a parking fine through from Waltham Forest council for parking in a bus lane in London - £130, you can hardly make out the number plate, but they clearly decided it was my number, so sent it me. I've tried to explain to them that it isn't my van or me on the date stated, let alone I've not driven in or around London for well over 20yrs, I've given them 4 reasons why its not me, but they aren't having it, so I've told them I aren't paying and will see them in court, you bring your evidence and I'll bring mine. Not heard anything yet, then at dinner tonight my son said, "Dad, surely you have you and your van on the CCTV system we have" bloody genious son, so checked and I sure do, of course it covers the whole day and time frame of concern, given I live 225 miles away I can't wait to see how they suggest I can be unloading a motorbike out of my van at home at the exact same time my van is parked in this bus lane, oh and the small issue of my van is a small medium roof van and the one in their photo is full height large van !! - even sent them a photo of my van, but still they insist its me - bring it on !

I’m going to court over a parking fine, I paid for parking on 2 days on the 2nd day I got a ticket I kept my tickets and proved I wasn’t liable they wrote saying on this occasion etc they would cancel then a month later they claimed I was parked the following week I proved to them it couldn’t be me then they wrote back saying it was the day before the original fine and they had evidence of me entering the car park which they do I have requested the photo they should produce showing the fine on my car the time still waiting. I am going to counter sue through the small claims for loss of work etc etc lying b*****ds.

had one of these for parking on a motorway services for 3 hours when you only get two almost paid it until I decided to research it on google after finding a massive thread on money saving expert about the company issuing the fine which wasn't actually a fine but an invoice although they look like the real thing i just ignored it and 4 court letters later it all went quiet.
this was about 4 years ago though so maybe things have changed?

These companies now aggressively pursue non payers and parking eye typically issue 1000 court summons a week.

I got a £100 notice from NCP last week showing the time I entered and left the car park with photos. Yes it was me and my car. However at the time the machine would not accept my card, so the attendant told me go and get some cash and pay on your return and before you leave, which I did and fortunately kept my ticket. I paid for an hour an half and was only on the car park for an hour and fifteen. The only thing that doesn't match is the time of my parking and ticket obtained. I have appealed and sent photo of my receipt and will wait and see the outcome, but I am not paying a fine.

I have been in a similar position, the safe option is to take two imgages of the ticket machine, one when you arrive and one when you leave. This will only work if the carpark has only one ticket machine as you are expected to go to the next working machine.

Yesterday received email notification from NCP that having gathered all the evidence and in conjunction with my letter the notice has been cancelled. £100 towards keeping the bikes in top notch.
