I’ve still got this problem. Can someone post a pic of the correct pump position at idle? J

Me too, however mine is an early 1980 model and some pulleys were modified by Yamaha. I have a genuine Yamaha cable fitted and still it rests in the incorrect position at idle according to the previous post, but unlike in that picture where the screw is near the ramp on the inner part of the pulley at idle, mine is well short of the ramp at that position . So at full throttle, I have set mine to fall short of the top mark and now set it at the round mark that is 4 mm below the top mark, apparently this was a secondary mark that Yamaha used to correct over oiling, and at this position the screw is well over the top of the ramp and on the flat part on the pulley , so full oil is being delivered, and this has cured my over oiling 250lc. Hope this helps.

Pulleys for these bikes were all effectively the same. Different marks, that's all. Same slopes and heights. All pulleys were capable of the same wrong/rights from the first 250lc in 1980, and to the very last power valve model.

Though what you say regarding the cable length Gary is so important, the genuine Yamaha cable I purchased from Fowler’s was about 7mm longer on the oil pump side than the pattern one i was originally using, plus the throttle action is so much snappier with the genuine one... just a shame they are so expensive!!.. but you get what you pay for i guess.

Incorrect position of pulley at idle position due to cable. You can see the hole where the spring goes, further round. Had to do this in three separate posts, but should work. Hi Arrow, you say this is an incorrect position at idle. I assume it’s the same bike/cable in photo 1 where the WOT setting is correct. Do you have a picture of the correct position at idle if the WOT adjustment is correct? Jon

Hi Jon, yes same bike. No, I don't have a photo of that. In all other cases where people are happy, or don't know of the issue there is no need to request a photo, nor is there any communication about any problems. May be one of the 1500 or so people who don't/ have not contacted me with a problem would like to post a photo of this. Anyone? I would happily post a photo of myself, but as most will know, I don't ride anymore nor own a bike.
