The Haynes book of lies says it not fixable and the rev counter is a sealed unit... Mr Haynes didnt try hard enough haha. So there are no tests for it.
Has anyone worked out what the 3 wires do and how this works? I assumed one is +12v through the gauge, one is ground and one is out to the sender?
If its not working, any ideas?

I am no electronics wizz by any means but i always thought one was +, one - and the other for the resistor

Green/red wire goes to the sender, which is also earthed through fastening to the cyl head. Black -ve Brown +ve

Cool thanks for that info.
So I deduce that to test it, I apply 12v to the brown, ground the black and then by grounding the green/red I should see the gauge move? Or do I need to attach it to a sender and heat it while earthing the sender back to the batt?
