The bad news is that I have a rather dented LC2 tank that a local specialist has deemed uneconomic to repair. The good news is that I also have a quite a good 86 onwards (F1?) tank that came with my LC2. I don’t suppose anyone has a decent LC2 tank they would like to swap for my later tank? Here is a pic of the good tank. It is dent free and looks in decent nick inside too. More pics available on request.

I see now,you mean f2 Still doesn't look standard although it could be the angle

Please ignore my swap request! Following yogiburr’s comments I had another, closer look at the black tank and realised it is a bit of a “Frankenstein” where the top half is F2 mated to an LC2 bottom side. It fits the bike but, when it’s on, the stock seat no longer fits, although the strange seat base that also came with the bike does, creating this... Looks like I’ll have to find an LC2 tank with out the benefit of a part exchange...

I would agree, doesn't look like a later YPVS tank to me either. Back is too long and wrong angle. No vent pipe at rear. Rear mount is different too, as are the side indents.

You have a point!
It won’t be going on the restored bike.

No idea. It came with the bike when I bought it and I didn’t realise then what a bodge it was...

Might be useful to a racer that needs a longer tank range. Classic TT?
Can't think of any other reason!

This is the reason why manufacturers spend lots of money on aesthetics.

The last few days Ive been looking on n off for a pic... Its one of Mick Jagger riding a massive pink knob on a stage during a gig. I think it may well have been in the centerfold of an LP, I thought it would work on this thread but Ive given up lol
Anyway, you have to admire the craftsmanship of this one, it does flow and its not immediately obvious to someone who doesnt know our bikes. Im sure you could sell this to someone making a cafe racer or the like.

The thing you have to check with a tank that badly damaged is the 2 locating cups on the front
They are only spot welded on and tend to pull through the thin steel causing a leak
Not what you want to find after spending a small fortune beating and painting

Good advice Steve, I would give the tank a wash out with white vineger, clean the tank out and check for leaks, kills 2 birds with 1 stone.....

It doesn’t leak but it is a bit worse than it looks in the picture I originally posted as that doesn’t show the ridge on the right side...

If it was me, I would cut it along the leg cut out swage line, so in essence you now have 2 dints, the back and the side, beat out these 2 dints then weld back together but like I say I used to do it for a living, wether it's worth a body shop doing it as a job is debatable because it is quite a lot of work and hassle...
