Who was the forum member that made the clear clutch window kits?
Fitted mine weeks ago and all was fine.
Never tightened too much (so I thought) and thread locked them
It's turned cold now and the fecker has cracked everywhere 🤬
Need a replacement now 😟

before you fit em, look down the side of the plastic, if its clear it's perspex and will crack at some stage, if it looks black it's polycarbonate and that stuff is almost indestructable. btw, even if its clear poly, when you look at the edge it looks black.

MBD do some nice ones. I have MBD and NK racing ones and not had a problem with either, if that helps?

I've always wondered how you could tell the difference between these two materials but aren't most bike screens made from polycarbonate?....I don't think they show any black??

I had a clear cover crack around the lower holes where the oil sits when the bikes not running, always used used to place the bike on paddock stands after a run, so the oil sat level in the window, pretty sure it was because of this that the screen cracked around the bolt holes, as the hot oil heated the cover up whilst it sat there, had a replacement off Norbo, and now I leave the bike on the sidestand for a few hours after a run to allow the gearbox oil to cool down, before adding the stands, not happened again yet

cheapo screens are perspex hence they crack. the good ones that don't are polycarbonate.

I spoke with Steve about this yesterday. We were both a bit undecided as to why it happened? I sold a few of these a couple of years ago, and this is the first one I’ve heard gone bad. I’ll sort him out one way or another.
@ mikee, Genuine Sabic Lexan was used which was UV treated both sides.
@ panzermatt, your right Lexan has a sort of dusky purple grey when looked at from the side.
@ Rigga, good advice on the side stand till the oil cools down. As Steve said it had been alright up to the cold snap so could be temperature related?

As Jon said we have had spoken and in no way am I questioning the quality of work or material
Only initially contacted him as i wanted to buy another
I reckon that I've just nipped the screws up too tight and beveled it as it hasn't cracked around holes but from the holes inward with no spidering.
It's went from the upper rear straight through to the mower hole and then 3/4 the way from the upper front over to the centre of the other crack
Fine when done but noticed it had split when I went out to switch on the background heaters after it dipped below freezing the other night
It's funny what you say about it being purple when you look through the side.
Just been looking at stuff on eBay Listed as polycarbonate lexan and a load is opaque so obviously not what it should be

The amount of screws might be something to do with it The ones I made were all standard 3 bolt fitment I also heattreat the plastic after machining , a waft over with a gas torch , deburrs and cleans up the machining

I never even thought about plastic and heat treating before, I've done it to O1 steel in the past, going by colour change before I bought a temp probe that could handle the high the temperature.
Where do you start with plastics temperature and time wise though?

just practise on a scrap bit , it is literally just a waft of the torch , youll see it start to look wet or glossy ,its more pronounced on acrylics do google on it too

if its 3 hole covers I have some lexan ones here, pm me
just found them, I have 2 left, they are made out of 5mm thick lexan and fit the modified standard casing and need an O ring under them (which I don't have)
