Hi all, De- coking the pipes on 250lc and just wondered what you use to bung the ends of the pipe. I don’t seem to have any cork or rubber bungs the correct diameter to fit? Without being too rude ,any suggestions would be most grateful . Many thanks,Shaun.

If you're going to repaint them, then I use a heatgun down each end until it blows clear (around 20 mins), you get lots of smoke out as it gets up to temp, so not really neighbour friendly

I taped up some rattle can lids over the baffle end. Should be a thread on here somewhere called tip of the day or something like that.

I bought a couple of wooden tapered bed legs from the hardware shop and pushed them in the ends, sealed perfectly, worked for me still have memories of decoking the exhaust on my Fizzy in 1979 and I managed to get caustic soda and all the crap that came out of the exhaust all over the back patio, my Mother was not impressed

Great reply’s all, went to the local wine making shop and bought some cork bungs for £3 . Put them in the manifold ends and it has worked wonders .Result!!

It must be noted that caustic soda will remove chrome and paint too and any thing organic eg cork or rubber
do not add all the caustic to the water in one go, it will go kaboom with the heat it generates, and could potentially ruin any bike or person within cooee , dissolve it slowly and add some dish washing powder to the mix as well to act as a sequestrant

I'm liking your last word in the second paragraph Howard. Some people in society these days could do with that!

Interesting article, many thanks for posting. I vaguely remember having a go at decoking one of my bikes back in the day, now 30 plus years on and advancements in two stroke oil, how often are you guys having to do this job? Assuming that most of you ain't using an LC has daily transport and when you do, if it's had a good run/got nice and hot, the build up should be minimal in the first place??

good point...but I think my bike did it's 16k miles btw 82 and 86....so just making sure it can breathe....truthfully probably doesn't need it.
