Just looking for advise on which to get cool head?
my barrels are with mick having a fast road tune and i think some said the squish can be changed to 22 or somthing.
tsa road pipes and it will have 28mm or 30mm carbs going on using standard airbox.
i have hear of wicked cool heads but seems they are not good?
thanks

Hi Couple of guys have had problems with the domes cracking on Wicked heads Mouse for 1. Wicked don't offer a warranty apparently I've got one on my orange bike although I've never run it since fitting it. Hopefully it will be ok, otherwise it will be an attractive, albeit very expensive, paper weight !! Dusty

Ask Mick match your original head to the barrels he is tuning. There is nothing wrong with the cylinder head Yamaha made. There is just less bling.

If Mick does adjust your original head to suit your tune it will be more precise than an aftermarket head and choosing a dome.

yes i spoke with mick and he said doesn't do it.
he said i dont think they need doing plus he hasn't got the tools to do it anyway.
if i don't need one i will use standard head.

If Your not sure your self then some one like Dave Reynolds, muttsnuts or Martin at Mad Biker, will do it for you. I had reworked cylinder head for O-rings and the volume was way too small.

For a ypvs id use one of the standard cool heads on my site, with 21 or 22mm domes fitted . they are the cheepest and frankley i think they look better then the wicked ones as they make the engine look like trickier .

They look exactly like a wicked one to me

Think he’s on about the Pro-design ones, they have been around for years so all the little issues are fixed, lots of O rings though.

doesnt realy matter that mush you just want to keep it fairly standard and no go over compressed .

The domes didn't need anything doing on my head I'm running standard bore I am led to believe you only need to reprofile the head if your running bigger bores if you give him a call I'm sure he will point you in the s best way to go

I'm amazed that a tuner does not do any head work.Surely a modest skim and reprofile to get the optimum volume would be the way to go.??

He told me he doesn’t mess with the squish as they don’t like unleaded and since I messed with mine by fitting a coolhead I melted a piston I guess he’s right

Stusco is using a Mick Abbey fast road tune with I think 21cc domes and 1mm squish if you go the billet head route. If you look on my thread help from the tuning guru's you will see an explanation on how to calculate the CC's needed. A ratio of 12:1 is safe. Most of my engines run between 12.5:1 to13:1. You can even read about the 16:1 mistake.
Personally I am not a fan of the wicked heads because there is more flow over the head and less around the exhaust and cylinder jackets.

I should have did more research but I was fed up with leaking head gaskets three summers on the bounce.

I like my wicked coolhead ,my problem was 20cc domes and a faulty zeel ,possible leaking o seal, and too much compression, as tobyjugs said I’m now on 21 domes and thicker base gaskets so hopefully no more problems

Steer well clear of the 'wicked' heads, they look lovely, but i know i am not the only one who has had problems with them and as Dusty said, there is no refund!
I went back to using a standard head and have had no problems. My engine is tuned, 66rwhp, but no work has been done to the head.
