Anyone else seen this government announcement?
If there are none on the road, then even if they allow historic vehicles, it will be difficult to get fuel, as all the fuel stations will close or become electric charging stations....

Rob I will be 81 the likelihood of me throwing a leg over my LC is pretty remote although I may store some fuel and go out in a haze of smoke with a shit eating grin on my face and two fingers up to Whitehall

Never saw this particular announcement as the last I heard was the banning of sales of new petrol and diesel engined vehicles by 2040. We are already seeing mission creep in the form of low emission zones across the UK and here in Glasgow we are looking at all vehicles being banned from the city centre in a few years time. The same goes for travelling in Europe where emission stickers are required to travel in most cities. I am not sure if this proposal will actually work as there will need to be millions of vehicle charging points and I'd bet the national grid would go into meltdown with the demand, not to mention the disposal and recycling of vehicle batteries which is probably more damaging than the vehicle exhaust products. I am sure the big petrol producing companies will also have something to say about this too Anyhow as Veg says I will be too old to ride my bike and too old to care what the law says so as long as there is fuel available I'll still be blasting about annoying the sh*t out of the rest of them

Hahaha!!!! who TF believes government announcements!! And any way, there wont be any need for petrol vehicles when we all have donkeys after the hard liners become the majority, and ban all tech. (apart from assault rifles and the like)

Once electric vehicles have been bought by the masses, you can bet that our government will change their taxation class etc, they will get that 'fuel tax' money back some how, you can bet your life.

Batteries are bollox and of little use until they last for at least 400 miles and are recharged in the time it takes to fill a car with fuel at a service station.

Batteries are a stop gap until the oil finally runs out. We already have a Honda car that runs on Hydrogen, most abundant element in the universe and free basically. The only emissions is water so pure you can drink it from the exhaust. However there is only one Hydrogen fuel station on the entire planet (Los Angeles I think) and there is NO way any government will allow this kind of vehicle as we still pay a fortune in petrol duties and electricity. The motor on that Honda could power half a city street, TV, microwaves, lights, the lot.
We live in truly insane times.

It will be great we won’t have any need for North Sea oil and we can finally set Scotland free give them their independence right after we have nicked all their resources. Win win 😀

Ethanol.. just have to grow stuff for fuel not food.. Maybe we can just eat words, I have heard of people mincing them, usually by Prius owners extoling their green credentials.

Like they announced a few years ago that they were turning off FM radio transmission, then realised that it was totally impractical, cos still 70% of all vehicles on the road don't have DAB radio yet, and even if they do, DAB reception is pretty patchy around the country at best.

Unless i,m thick as f@@k which i probably am ,I can't work out how plugging a car into the national grid every night is going greener few years ago my kids came home from school with low energy lightbulbs because they had been taught that power stations create massive pollution. I took a Toyota Hybrid Rav 4 out on test drive recently when my diesel went in for a service ,basically its a 2 ltr petrol with self charging battery back up, you can switch it in to 3 modes one of which is to turn off the hybrid and drive it in just petrol, which is obviously the way most of us would drive it 200hp goes nicely so its hardly progress bit like the petrol cars we all had in the 90,s ,but because it is capable of being driven in eco mode it ticks all the emission boxes. Its all a load of bollox at the moment.

I totally agree with you about the national grid aspect,......on the news just the other day, they said that they are running a cable under the sea to connect to Norway's grid so that the UK can draw power from them if need be. Fine I thought but surely there will come a time when demand outstrips that supply too? All these electric vehicles need solar panels for roofs and wind turbine attachments to solve this problem I think.

D'ya think they reckon the oil will run out by 2050? Maybe then Hydrogen will become available. But I doubt it. By 2050 everyone will be so used to electric cars that anything that runs on petrol will be a real dinosaur (pun intended lol). But even with massive advances in batteries the national grid will have long collapsed, they are talking about switch off times in London now during the wee hours. So...more power stations MORE pollution. Bunch of f**ktards trying to make money out of us no matter what.

+1 .... However there is only one Hydrogen fuel station on the entire planet (Los Angeles I think) Alex We have one here (down in Melbourne I think), but the cars are not legal on the roads here yet so its only for research and development. I agree its mental, but going forwards it will become harder to find the kind of fuel we use as stations switch over to charging stations etc Australia is behind the UK in this for sure, you almost never see any charging points here but I saw lots in the UK this summer.

Alex I'm kind of surprised that the oil hasn't dried up yet,....to think how much the companies I've worked for have used for example, multiple that, world wide, must add up to a shocking amount.

One of the shows that I work on is based at the Science Museum Park at Wroughton... They have a Hydrogen powered car for the management team to drive around in.. They're not allowed to park it in any of the buildings....... just in case.... Because nothing bad ever happened with hydrogen, right.....

And hydrogen being free was mentioned above... Yes, it's abundant... But, do you know how much electricity is takes to produce it....... A lot.... More power stations...
