Not sure about the rest but my powder coater puts clear powder over the base colour (red for my Hybrid) works well over frame numbers as that bit doesn't get the base colour.

Silvers are base coated then lacquered, so correct.

90% complete engine but no pistons or PV's.... I'd say that was a rather drastic 10% to be missing.

I take my hat off to anyone who takes on this bike or any other similar engine in pieces/half of them missing type project, unless you have previous first hand extensive knowledge of how to assemble this engine etc, you'd be in for a tough time I reckon, let alone trying to finding the particular missing parts in the first place. Just not having the V5 is enough to put me off,.....I were told never to buy a vehicle if the owner couldn't supply it's log book.

Building a bike from boxes isn't that bad, however choose wisely. I've done a couple (KR1s 3XV, MC21) and I'd never touched a KR1s before I did that one but did some reserch on availability of parts and what was common across the Kawasaki range. If you bought a 350LC in boxes then you wouldn't have a problem. A YDS7 might be a bit more difficult. Also getting a V5 or registering an imported bike is easier than most people think. If it's come from abroad there is no HPI check.
If you know you can't get parts that are probably missing, then it's a none starter, however at £6K the RD500 might not be too bad a project if you know you can source parts....
Some people buy projects thinking they know where to get parts, and when they can't they make up some excuse to move it on knowing they (or anyone else) could never finish it....
Personally I won't be taking on an RD500 project. I owned one in the 80's. It was more like a GT750 Suzuki than a GP Rep. Now my RG500 was another story and that's why I own so many of them and not a single RD500

I bet that many folk either just lose interest in finishing it or realise that they have 'bitten off more than they can chew' after X amount of time,.....whether it be a bike or 4 wheeled vehicle.

I bought my yellow Lc project bike a few months back without a V5c. I felt that there was enough parts in the bike, plus a load of spares, to get my money back if I couldn't get a log book for it. Trouble is, when I got the bike home I really wanted to keep it and not break it. I applied for the log book and was very happy when I got it back in my name. I did buy it with a recent HPI check though (paperwork included) so I thought I had a fair chance it was all legit. Plus the seller is a member on here with a good rep, and other guys have dealt with him happily in the past, so that was great. I would want a current HPI on any bike without a log book as an absolute minimum, but you cant beat having the legit paperwork. Dusty
