there where different designs, the 100 they did where done by 6 different painters at dream machine, each paint set had a serial number and the painters initials engraved onto each paint peice, they where told they could have some "artistic" license when doing them, so some have "YPVS" stickers on, others don't, some have number boards that are blank on the tail peices, others have numbers, so there is no "right or wrong" per-se, just more of what looks right, I don't know exactly how many different designs where done, but I've done apporx 5 Marlboro RD500's over the years and all of them where slightly different one way or the other

Then and now, you could never expect anything other than inconsistency with Dream Machine.

Around 150 bikes were painted by Dream Machine for Mitsui, all these bikes were unsold German stock apart from Mitsui's two pre-production bikes. This is how the original bikes were painted. If you want to check if you have an original Marlboro bike then contact me and i will check my database

500, that's interesting as I've restored 2 originals now, both with the serial numbers/painters initials on the panels and tank etc, both original bikes and both had slightly different schemes, when I spoke to dream machine they told me that although they had a remit to make them all the same, some where done slightly differently depending upon what the painter wanted to do, so some like the ones I've done and seen had number boards painted on and some had extra stickers etc, I am now wondering if the ones that are differemnt where maybe done at the customers request when ordering the bikes from new, that would explain the differences I've seen

Many thanks for that, I had heard some time back that there was some “ artistic licence” involved , I’ve been offered one that has been repainted in its lifetime but poorly and not how it left dream machine ideally I’d like it painted as it left factory as I do know it’s genuine.

pfft that's nothing. My Yam RS100 was in Marlboro colours... Painted by me aged 17 with rattle cans and a few stickers...so wish I had a pic! (It wasn't as bad as it sounds...) Alex

Really Alex? Wasn’t or wasn’t in my memory? Sheet the things I did to bikes I look back on and cringe

It did look ok...from afar lol. Gold wheels, clock protector bars, RD250 clocks, a Micron. Did 70 on a good day, then it blew up. Got a replacement engine from Piston Broke in Twickenham and swapped it later on for a 250LC!
(a very tired 250LC I might add...)

That's a beautiful RD500LC. I borrowed one once and it broke my heart to give it back. It rattled a bit but bloody hell did it go fast. It's the best fun you can have that's not rude. Lol.
