I just recently bought a mk1 candy blue rd with a malfunctioning rev counter. Now the issue is that the rev counter doesn't really move and it goes up to about 5k when driving but it takes a very long time. I've check the "turny thingy" in the engine and that seems to be working properly. The cable is not the problem either. Has this happened to anyone else ? If so pleas explain how you fixed it.
Sorry in advance for any incorrect spelling and grammatical errors

I've had this before with the RD125LC they just give up working either through worn out insides or worn drive where the cable slots in or if someone has been inside it messing about with it and screwed it up. From memory they have a spring/coil inside it could be that or the workings themselves that have just decided to act up. All you can do is carefully strip it and see if its repairable if you can get it apart and it appears to be just gummed up try some WD40 on it and see if it helps if not its probably going to need either refurbing or a replacement.

If you have an original bike with low miles the grease can still fall down from the gears (when left in the sun I guess) and effect the dome 'turny thingy' , you have to open it up and clean off
or the bit that the cable screws to is a press fit into the frame and can get ripped out when the cable has no slack for steering, this normally causes irratic rev counter though, it's difficult to repair as two different types of metal.
