Just a thought , apologies if I thread is in wrong place. Is there any need to allow for replies or comments on For Sale Ads? If something is listed for sale with Pics, Price and contact details not sure replies in open forum are necessary?, gets a bit tedious reading everyone’s opinions judging someone else’s pride and joy. I’m pretty sure no one ever feels the need to contact every owner of a bike on auto trader or eBay there not keen on or think isn’t correctly priced.

You often get newbies to forums say this, adding usually something like 'on the XYZ forum we do it this way' etc. The difference is that here were much more of a community than many other forums and the way its done here works pretty well. Why wouldnt we want to chat about something, plenty of good side deals and helping goes on from those chats, very rarely does someone get upset and throw their toys outa their pram. I think newbies should be open to the way that the community does things when they join, not try and make it all like somewhere else theyve hung out...
(FWIW the parallels with immigrants isnt lost on me with what ive written...)

So my post started “just a thought”, I disagree somewhat with the “ were all a community”, I sit and read the threads and can tell half the time who will pop up next with a snipe. I agree discussion is good , just dont really see how slating what people are selling is productive? If your interested enquire , call the seller, if not then leave it.

I see what you are saying, I have looked at bikes for sale on here and some smart ass will point out the stickers are in the wrong place or a bolt is wrong etc etc etc, this is not really helpful for the seller having his bike criticised when trying to sell it. I think some people are missing the point you are trying to make.

I think your sense of humour app has stopped running, best restart it 😆 I'd guess it's a joke aimed at the original post being in the for sale sction I've finished calling everyone in AutoTrader now so before I start on MCN I'll give my 2p's worth Comments are helpful i.e. Let's people know a few have asked about it so probably no point getting your hopes up Helps stop the first person asking for it being done over by a later/higher offer Let's the seller know if they have missed something that is helpful Unhelpful Critisism Bitching between members Links to cheaper items Both systems have their pros and cons so not everyone will be happy Also some members will be the first to comment on certain things I won't comment on individual members, not my place Try selling on EBay and see the comments you get😡 Steve

Yes but people like to chat and take the piss out of there mates as mush and look and ask questions . It all so gets peoples post count up. Its more about having a chat as much as selling something people can come on and say ive seen this bike and its every bit as nice as the pictures stuff like that . Its Ok to put opinions forward and all ideas are welcome but i think we'll just leave this as it is .

I think what whiteblue 350 is saying when negative comments spiral out of control and are of no use to the item in question ...

And that's the whole point..... Sure, people pointing out errors in adverts, constructive comments or pointing out something that's been missed or not been made clear are helpful but.... Putting links to similar cheaper items, comments like "it's too expensive mate", and negative comments about the item should NOT be made. If you're not interested in the item or don't have anything useful/positive to say, then move on I say IMHO lol

There are pros and cons to both buyer and seller.
It is mainly the seller that takes umbrage for one reason or anther?
In that case why not have a silent for sale section where comments can’t be posted? Don’t even know if proboards have a way of doing it, but obviously it’s possible.
Failing that the seller could ask for PMs only and no comments, and report any comments to admin to remove?
This kind of anonymous selling is available elsewhere, so if your that way inclined, and it’s that important to you why not use that media?

I think it comes down to individual item, and whether it’s honestly described and a fair price. Your comment seems to be biased for the seller though. If there are genuine issues/overpriced items the newbies for example (or even the unaware) could possibly pay over the top unless people point it out? I will certainly police myself in this respect and try not to comment on trivial things, only those I consider major in future. Jon

Jon Yeah that's a fair point if something is clearly miss-described or wrong. Price wise I'm not so sure, especially as so many will have differing opinions as the the value of something and what seller wants everyone's personal opinion on the item's valiue, especially from people not in the slightest bit interested in buying it ?. In my opinion, it's the seller's prerogative to ask whatever they want for an item, and if someone were to buy something over-priced without doing an ounce of research, then more fool them lol

Regarding price, or overprice; I think it’s easy if we’re talking about a known item. Take a specific make of TV for instance. Anyone can research just what people are offering for the same product. If they don’t and they pay over the odds your right. If an item on here seems overpriced and others can see that, why not comment? As they say if someone wants it regardless more fool them, or maybe not? But at least give the buyer some guidance. Jon

This does happen from time to time and hopefully a mod will edit them out. Some times it can get a bit of topic and ive had to remove comments but it doesn't happen very often .
