Just test driven my 31k and i had to turn in the airscrews from 1,5 to 1,0 turn open. Runs a lot better but not happy yet. Well there are a lot of changes new stainless pipes, gutted airbox, boostbottle. That explains a lot. Running 27,5 pilot and 270 mainjet now. The mains i ordered from Ali. But i was thinking maybee upping the pilot jet. With the standard cigar pipes i had upped the pilotjet already from 22,5 to 27,5. That was in the 80’s. So upping to 30? Any advise on this would help me a lot.

Hi marrcel I would suggest that you use original Mikuni parts in the carbs. I have used TOPHAM VERGASERTECHNIK GMBH, they have a fast turnaround and most parts are available.
What symtoms is your bike Showing?

I'd say gutted airbox and pipes needs more than a 270 main

What symtoms is your bike Showing? Sputtering lean just above idle. Turning the airscrew in helped a lot. I m wondering any of you turn the airscrew less than 1.0 open? Thx for thejet adress.

Hi marrcel it sounds like your doing the right thing but a 30 pilot with that size main jet does not sound right. Is the engine tuned? Have you tried moving the needle up and down.
I would first get the main jets sorted then start with the fine adjustments

That looks ok but i would go 1 up on the main jet and hold it open a little longer. My personal preference would be just a little darker (safer).

hi i would suggest 280 to 290 on your mains ,i had 32.5 pilots so i could get the air screw out , needle second groove from top,you can use a tiny shim washer under the needle clip for fine adjustment on needle,i had one of those boostbottle and it ran way better without it , if you start going mad on pilot jet sizes,do a leak down test and pray

This question comes up after i saw pilot jets with bleed holes for vm carbs. At least in the spare part pictures of topham.

pilot jet is M28/1001
rule of thumb for pilot jetting, half a turn out or less on the air screw, up the pilot jet, 4 turns fully out on air screw, drop the pilot jet, nothing wrong with the air screw being half a turn out, I have some that run 1/4 turn out, but its a bit close for me as you lose adjustment, so I use half a turn out as my rule, but each to their own, what matters is what makes it run correctly

Hi Marrcel The number mutts gave is the same numbers that Topham use, just quote the size of the jet after the M28/1001-??

This an update after a few fouled plugs at 290 280 and 270 mains. I didnt exacty know, what is a gutted airboxx? Mine is empty, no snorkel. The lid which is under the standard airfilter element contains say 10 holes 25mm. May be that explains the smaller main jets. Next time trying 260. Thats after i raised the float level from 22.0 to 20.5. That helped the pilotjet a lot. 32,5 now with airscrew at 1.25 open at the moment. And wow what a weather for playing with the carbies😎
