Looking to get hold of one that's not pristine as not fused about concours condition etc
Would probably do the upside forks & gullwing arm change and some spannies when I get hold of a 500
So it would be helpful if you could help me post which parts I should be looking for to convert from standard to modified
Or post a link to ones that already have been done
Thanks in advance

If you get over 10 posts, you can put up a wanted ad. I think there was a slightly modified RD500 offered on here in the last few weeks....

The best modded 500 i saw used a Aprilia RSV4 rolling chassis the worst i have seen use a R6 chassis. Trouble is none of them look like an original 500

Best Mod has to be Stans 700 conversion. I have seen one that used bored out standard cylinders, but lost the power valves, which made it less ridable than a nicely tuned and setup 500.

I do understand the appeal of the 500, especially the RZ with its alloy frame.
I have never owned one but heard of peopleβs opinions who have about them being a bit lumbering?
Someone even said they thought a tuned 350 YPVS would give it a run for its money on the twistys.
With the progression of big bore kits for the banshee now available that fit the 350, I have to ask the question if this would produce a quicker and better handling bike?
Classic icon model aside, I think Iβd choose the 350 big bore.

Back circa 1990 I built a 350ypvs Yamagamma using a mk3 gamma. The engine had a Stan Stephens stage 3 tune, flowed reed blocks with HiTec reeds, stnd carbs and a set of Stephens/Lomas F2 pipes revved like hell and flew, my mate had a rd500 at the same time and they were neck and neck although I had to work hard on the gears and keep the revs up. Handling wise the Yamagamma had the advantage as it was so light and flickable. I still own the Yamagamma although it needs a full rebuild which when I get around to it will hopefully have a +4 crank, Wicked Torque billet head and a set of TSA or Mutts midrange pipes. The days of revving to 11k revs and tap dancing on the gear lever have long gone. I have also owned the same rd500 for 16 years or so. Which would I sell if I had to - the 350 I'm afraid, the RD500 is still the big DADDY to me anyway. Rich.

If I remember correctly the one Stan did had the power valves , 350 YPVS Cylinders and used twin carbs and not 4 as all four cylinders were piston ported and there was no room for 4 carbs.

This is my before and after, Not sure if its what you are looking for.. Full race ported engine, 34mm carbies, V-Force 4 reedblocks, billet heads with o-rings. Toomey pipes, Bill Wilson air filters, etc. 2008 R6 front/rear suspension, BST Carbon wheels, Ohlins, every nut and bolt replaced, Wayyyyyy too much money in it....
