Vapour blast. They were never mirror polished when new.

They were pretty shiny when new: www.skills.plus.com/LC/page5.htmlI polished mine, masked the edges and glass beed blasted the areas not to be polished, ie back and where there pegs attach, and then powdercoated the whole footrest in clear.

Scotchbrite pads, WD40 and a load of time and elbow grease. Well worth it when they're done.

Back in the day i used wire wool and autosol ' but maybee vapour blasting is an easier option. Lacquer will go milky and look shabby in time. Still keep mine looking shiny with autosol .

Cheapest way. Soak them in white vinegar for a week. Then wash them with a Brillo pad. Yes, a Brillo pad lol. Then 240 grit wet and dry, then Scotchbrite, then cutting compound. If you have access to a polishing wheel for a final fling even better.

I just run mine over a polishing wheel. Not too bling as they will show every scratch otherwise. I wouldn't lacquer. Dusty

That's what I remember doing back in the day, same with the exposed alloy section of the wheels,....what a pain. My current LC came with painted foot hangers thankfully, wheels still showing alloy though,...what you guys using on them nowadays??

I use a bench grinder with a special scotch bright wheel on it to get all the crap of then polish it up with polishing mop and soaps . lacquer does take the lustier out the polish but it will last a lot longer but in sunlight and road durt it turns yellow and flakes of over time .
