Just found a classified ad for a bike for sale close to me. Pics are pretty poor quality but descriptions sounds honest. What's are your views on value for money?
This is my Yamaha RD 350 LC, it's a UK bike not matching numbers (due to engine change for a lower mileage engine in the 1980s). It's a non runner, it needs a new fuel tank, crankshaft needs rebuilding and the brake calipers need restoring . Engine is free and kicks over fine. It's had three owners on the log book (the original owner, my brother, then me) it's on sorn in my name now. This bike is not standard, it has race pipes, LC2 wheels and forks, xj 600 twin piston calipers and chain and sprockets. number plate is broken, rear half of rear mudguard is missing, also centre stand. I want £3200 for the bike it is not negotiable, many thanks.

£1000 on a good day, none matching, needs a rebuild and paint? only reason you buy something like that is for parts or its cheap

Yea, he's very optimistic with that price. New tank = new paint and probably total engine rebuild, plus everything else. That sounds like an expensive project.

Kicks over but crank is knackered?? Avoid Alex Yeah, I didn’t understand than either. How do you know the crank is knackered? What to people think a sorted, non matching numbers, uk bike is worth? I reckon I’d sink about £1500 on that including paint based on what I spent on my N2.

My guess is that it would cost more so either he'd have to reduce that price or I'd look for another bike.

IMO it seems the value of LCs that are complete, roadworthy and reasonable all round condition is between £4K-£5k.
This seems to be the price they actually sell for as opposed to the chancers.
Therefore I’d say £3200 is overpriced considering the work needed, but £1000 is selling it short. In fact if he’s adamant he’ll take no less then he’d probably slam the door in your face with £1000 offer.
You’ll have to factor in how much it would cost to get to a level yo are happy with.
If you know you need an engine split to replace the crank, then it’s a good excuse to check the rest anyway. Tanks not a problem these days.
I’d say £1500 to £2000 tops if the rest is good.

Wouldn’t have lasted too long if ridden for any distance. At this stage it’s a red light to change it before possibly takes out cases and barrels. Jon

Race pipes ?? Could be totally useless on a road bike - maybe that's why the crank is knackered !! Expect the worst regards engine, and then you'll sink anywhere between £600 - £1000 building it right. We can keep guessing about potential costs though. Go and view it, but take a mate who isn't an Lc lover who will have an objective view - most of us here want to rescue every rough one we see !! Good luck Dusty

I think that’s probabaly fair. I think prices have been stable for a while on LCs, YPVS bikes seem to be on the rise, but there are few LC project bikes from UK these days, and we all love a project! If he sayin no offers then he unlikely to drop a grand off the price so I won’t bother to view it. If it was £2500 I’d have probabaly taken a punt. Jon

Jon Spot on with the price I'd say, apart from having a max of 5k myself to spend, I struggle to see how an LC 350 is worth anymore really but I bought one just to use/for my own pleasure rather than an 'investment' as such.

My bad for some reason I though it was a late ypvs (too early) would agree with above comments £1500 maybe a bit more but not much. I sold my none matching numbers for £3300 rebuilt motor pipes new mot good paint although bright orange.

You should be able to get something quite nice for £4000, so why spend £3200 on one that needs 2k+ spending on it?

I already have an N2, so maybe I'll feed the need to tinker by fitting microns and Vforce reeds and gettin it painted rather than "investing" in a 4L0!

. Yeah, I didn’t even bother putting the link to eBay as the pics tell you nothing. It’s easily near enough to go and look but can’t be arsed if he’s looking for that kind of money.
