Some people have a real brass neck and utterly shameless. Not even an attempt to hide the file marks. Worst effort I have seen in ages.

I reported some cases a while back- no engine number, and the marks where the angle grinder had touched the cases could still be seen- no effort whatsoever to even attempt to hide what had gone on. After an interesting online conversation with some geek at ebay, they said that they couldn't take the ad down as, even though it may be that the cases could possibly be stolen, they couldn't prove that the seller owned the item (i.e. he could have been selling for someone else)! I politely pointed out that, as they were stolen, he indeed did not own them. No charge to answer, says ebay. Case closed. I had half a mind to bid, turn up to collect them and give the seller a bit of re-education.......

I asked regarding and was told it was rude to ask and told to "ring" the number to discuss any further, seems strange as fleabay don't normally allow contact info in that type of listing!! Obviously looking to sell at a bargain price via phone call and end listing early to also avoid fees and anything covered by the terms of safe buying practices via fleabay.

New message from: charleypovey1998 (26Yellow Star) Hiya im not messaging anymore unless your of genuine interest , it is what it is I have the full bike and havent time for it anymore so parts will be available. The photos are taken with nothing to hide or I wouldnt have put them on and put collection only if I was dodgy. Thanks for your concern tho.

My 10w engine has had the number filed off and a 12a number stamped on it. I don't know if some wab done this back in the day to change the engine to the unrestricted one, then changed the engine number to match his 12A log book. But the bike hasnt been on the road in 11 years and it's giving me the shits incase it comes up as stolen when I go to register it and they take the whole bike from me.
I've since sourced another engine but the bearings feel like they have sand in them so it needs a rebuild. The engine with the changed engine number was a fresh rebuild and ran beautifully. Typical.

Looking at the image it may be possible to recover the engine number however if you did and it came up stolen you have just lost your engine, caveat emptor.

Having that engine number on the logbook means absolutely nothing.
Someone has just sent it off with new numbers like any other engine that has been swapped.
DVLA would have just changed the numbers over.
It doesn’t hide the fact that someone has deliberately removed the old numbers and stamped in some new. IMO the only reason for this is to hide its previous identity because it was stolen.
This case (sic) is obvious, but have you given any thought to engine internals for sale? So many of them could have been from stolen bikes, and no-one would have been the wiser.

Typical of eBay shirking their responsibilities. I get a warning to suspend my account for asking a genuine question to a seller after buying the item and some scumbag selling obviously nicked parts with his contact number in the listing gets left alone. I try to avoid eBay at all costs now.
