What a beauty...He's a very clever boy eh...The build of the bike is being documented in CMM mag every month, he is also making (probably made by now...)a 6 cyl 4 stroke using 2 x FZR250 engines as a base..

Some people call their mish mash bikes hybrids. Some call their hybrids specials when they are actually Bitsa’s. Alan bikes are all most definitely specials. It looks and sounds the dogs goolies.

Not a 2 stroke bike but you got to admire his skills/problem solving.

Yea, he is a genius for sure. Mouse and myself were chatting to him at the Stafford show last year. We were stood looking at the Rc374 tribute bike, and didn't realise he was stood next to us !! He cuts all his crankcases by hand with a large hacksaw !! Think he was a design engineer for the MOD and his skills are jaw dropping. If he carries on like that he may become as good as our Yamark !! Dusty

What I know about old British bikes could be written on a stamp but I actually understood everything he said in that Velocette video. The man is incredible. Amazed someone like NASA haven't tried to snap him up.

BIG elephant in the room question .. remains as.. Why would one want to bother, beyond the obvious; 'look at me Ma' ? Reminiscent of Ettore Bugatti's opinion of Bentley.. A triumph of Craftsmanship over design. A superior 4 cyl moto can be bought, albeit well used, for v little Coin.

Isn't the classic answer to that, "because he can" and fair play to the guy, his projects have been awesome, done to the highest degree! I respect the guy and what he does.

You could say that about many on here with their LC's/hybrids,....especially when thinking of handling and speed, just buy an R6 for example. Lol

Hmm., OK, when does a factory bike become a bitsa. Ie how much has to change? And when does a bitsa become a hybrid or a special. I wouldn't call yamarks triple a bitsa or Alan's 4 but would others? I ask because when someone envisions a bike and uses available parts to build it then bitsa can be felt as a derogatory remark. Interested to hear others opinions.

Any major component(s) that you have to design/build from scratch I would say, that would make it a very special bike indeed. Think of it another way, if you crashed the bike and damaged those parts, would there be any such spares sitting on a shelf some where??

Mmmm, interesting ! I always thought the bikes I build were Hybrids. But, it seems I've been wrong all these years The dictionary describes a hybrid as "a thing made by combining two different elements; a mixture". As there are more than 2 parent bikes involved in my builds, not technically a hybrid . Gotta be a Bitsa then ? Urban dictionary finds Bitsa as "Boston Intercollegiate Taiwanese Students Association (Massachusetts". I can guarantee no far eastern students were used to make my bikes ! Must be a mish mash then ? But mish mash is "a collection or mixture of unrelated things" ! As the parts are all motorcycle parts then not really a mish mash "Chimera" maybe ? "a thing that is hoped or wished for but in fact is illusory or impossible to achieve" Not that then, although that may yet apply to my café racer build !! Pile of shit ? " A slang reference to an item or person which refers to the subject being unusable, of shoddy construction, unwanted, unreliable, or unacceptable in some fashion". Don't think that fits - too many clever, talented people on here to redefine their bikes as "POS " !! Ah, gotta be "hodgepodge" ! But no, as hodgepodge is "a confused mixture" Doesn't apply to anything on here. So, that leaves "Special" "better, greater, or otherwise different from what is usual" So it's official, if you don't go with a standard build, you've built a special !! Now, I'm going back to bed - I've killed too many brain cells for a Monday morning !! Dusty P.s Thank heavens it wasn't "Hodgepodge" ! "Yamaha 421 Lc Hodgepodge" doesn't quite sound right !!

It's nice to have something that's personal. We can all buy an identikit UJM but that feeling of pride won't be the same when you open the garage door.

The yanks use often the term “resto mod” when there are several components involved. A special can also be a new bike. Fz1 front end, szr back wheel, R6 shock. Some will call this a tortoiseshellcat. But that is a direct translation from dutch😤
