I did gloss. Came out well, but it’s personal preferance. That’s simonez engine enamel, not hycote, but I’d imagine very similar.

Is the satin ok for crankcases? or do you guys powder coat cases?? Phil Personally I wouldn’t powder coat cases. Sure it’s a nice durable surface, but there is a lot of masking to do in heatproof masking. Unless your powder coasters has done this before I would steer clear. I did mine in satin 2k for the petrol resistance with the possibility of leaking carbs. Please no comments about how dangerous 2k can be. I’m aware and have all the kit. I’ve used Simoniz before and it’s fine if baked, but not as durable as 2k. It seemed effected by petrol, but managed to wipe it off before any real damage so I can’t comment on continued exposure. I did my top end in the old Plasticote BBQ satin. Again no comments please as the barrels and head don’t get hot enough to need it. I had it so I used it. A very good match to the 2k on the case. Some say the new stuff isn’t as good as the old (just like PJ1) but again I can’t comment as I haven’t had to use the new stuff yet. Still on my stash of the old stuff. Jon

Jon, yes the powder coating is a pain, the guys I use do a lot of bike bits but actually you're probably right in suggesting 2k, I can get that done at the same place.
