Hi all, on my first hybrid build at the moment....and have opted to run the engine as is without a bottom end rebuild....but the clutch is rattling away...and on inspection has some nice(not) rotational play. Many years ago I had the whole basket go wobbly and shattered all my plates on another bike....but have forgotten what the issue were....could anyone tell me should I replace the basket assembly?....(I'm going to do the plates anyway)..or is it the shock mounts just need replacing?

Rotational play Between drive gear and clutch basket is factory intentional. It should be in the 4~6mm range factory fresh. More than that and the rubber bungs are destroyed (rare though) Rattling is usually the discs rattling on worn in grooves in the basket fingers. Beyond that the basket centre bush could be damaged.

Thanks for that answer,...any recommendations for a replacement basket, plates and springs...is the basket replacement relatively easy to do...my only experience with the clutch is replacing a complete assembly including the gear...

rdlccrazy.proboards.com/thread/34544/rd350lc-engine-rebuildGo to page 3 for the pics on how to separate the basket from the gear. You don't say if your bike is Lc or Pv, but the process is exactly the same for both. Norbo sells the billet Mitaka basket - not sure if he does the Wiseco damper rubbers - worth an ask, otherwise Martin at MBD does them and also NK Racing. Norbo and Martin will also supply springs, steels and frictions if needed. Dusty
