I test drove the Renault, Ford & Merc and went for the Renault business+. Pre reg with 7 miles on the clock. Got £7k off RRP Paid £14k got £3k from we buy any car for my Ford connect. I managed to drive it to their place (on a wing and a prayer). The guy stuck the key in fired it up and checked the mileage. That was it. I doubt it would have gone any further.... Went for the high power engine. I average 45mpg, it will do 85 with a loaded 2 bike trailer and 2 bikes in the back. 800+ miles on a tank full, reversing camera, parking sensors BT for your phone. Auto stop/start. Auto lights, Fog lights, auto wipers, Hill start assist, traction control plus another button with "i" on it I pressed once and a nice lady from Renault asked me what the problem was !!! 4 years warranty, service every 2 years. Doors need a good pull and a slam (back door lock is on the other side to the transit). Electrics can be a bit funny. I had to cut a hole in the bottom of the bulkhead to get 3m pipes in (and thru under the passenger seats). Turn it off turn it on again. Dead comfy. It's fantastic

I run custom limiteds as company vans which are changed every two years. Excellent vans to drive , a few niggling faults which are sorted under warranty with no bother but absolutely shocking “security “ , budget for at least £500 to change the door lock ( the original can be opened in seconds with a screwdriver ) fit loom guards to the cab doors and deadlocks to the rear and side doors.

Hi, I drive custom as work van, not restricted- good top end not much bottom end without revving it. the security is lousy on them you can buy skeleton key off the bay and they open the drivers door. I prefer vws but for the price theyre ok...

David i need to make up my mind as the 17 are euro 6 2.0 engines which ive heard have gotbig injector problems as for security my mk7 the same ive uprated the locks & put alarm on i know a few people who there customs broke into there dead easy to get into

Got a new Vivaro 2 yrs ago, massive saving on RRP. No probs with it. Was going for a Transit Custom or VW, until I had a look at Vivaros..... If you listened to everyone with tales of woe...you would never buy anything. No vehicle seems to evade it.

I’ve never had any issues with the Euro 6 engines except the oil change required message appearing prematurely on a couple of them. I know of a good few vw vans that’ve had serious engine failures and worryingly , warranty claims denied. I’ve used Ford for my company vehicles for 15 years and see no reason to pay over the odds for unreliable German vans nor take a chance on anything of French origin. I was given the new Peugeot van ( don’t remember the name ) to try for a couple of days before Christmas and found it poorly equipped , very flimsy and slow. The build quality was really bad god knows how it’d look in two years time.

well im on my second transit in a row ive had loads of vans over the years just so handy to have. My one now has been a great van and very reliable but i have my eye on a custom once its fixed some kined of engin limitation problem with it now .
They are a good bit smaller thou less leg room and over all room at the front and smaller in the back as well and apparently the easiest van to brake in to , but i still fancy something thats not so pikey as the one i drive now

All our engineers run Renault traffics
As said no load through flap in the bulkhead.
Ours are crew cabs and the biggest problem is the back door locks
Go out in morning and feckin thing won't open. Can't get the tools out.
Call Renault, can't take it for 3 days

And there’s a few more reasons to go with a Transit Custom

That's over 6,000 reasons

I have owned a transit custom for a couple of years. I can fit two large bikes in the back with all the stuff for trackdays. It is really comfortable to drive and i have taken it to Spa and it is perfect for long distances. Mine is an ex demo model so has a folding roof rack, led load bay lights and the upgraded electrics. I have had no problems with it and would happily get another one in a couple of years. As previously mentioned some people have loads of problems and others dont, i havent so far. Rob

Great vans. They drive better than a lot of cars and are very nearly as wide inside as a Merc Sprinter.

Euro 6 Transit Customs have a 2 year service interval not 12 months.

A few ways of trying to make these vans more secure.

There's a security update for free for earlier customs.
