I like Motobatt. Bearing in mind you don't actually need it for anything, a cheapo lead acid one should be fine.

+1 for Motobatt. AGM technology means no acid spills Dusty

Whats' wrong with your Cheapo battery.. has it Died ? Some Chargers have a Desulphate setting which sometimes revives the things. Lead acid batteries typically get killed by Primitive charge systems (not much to be done there :-) .. even 'good batteries', although those do soldier on a bit longer. Sometimes multiple cheap batteries are more cost effective than a couple of Pricey ones

I second Bare. Never gone wrong with Yuasa Batteries myself(lead acid and not cheap) on my bikes in the past. It depends on what you want from and expect from your battery.
Aid.

If you want originality then it's the lead acid and when looked after ie optimate hooked up they last well, had mine now for 7 years. I'm sure it's a Yuasa, shows how many times I look at it!!

Yuasa's are great batteries - I always used them back in the day. I also used to get acid spills from the vent pipe on my chrome pipes , hence I prefer the AGM batteries nowadays, but I'm sure if you fit a lead acid Yuasa it will work fine. Dusty

Always been happy with the Yuasa YBL-5 in my F2. However, next time I shall probably try the Motobatt. Checking the spec it seems I need the MB5.5U but that’s 15mm longer than the Yuasa. Will that still fit comfortably in the battery carrier? ( The MB5 looks the same size as the Yuasa.) So which one for an F2 model?

Does it matter that it's not holding charge? My hybrid battery was like that for years, it's not part of the ignition system, so the bike fires up fine & then everything works OK. It would charge, but lose it within a week or so.

Unless you have a zeel😏 I think Zeels star ok with a flat battery, mine does anyway but if you have an ignitech then no it wont start with a flat battery i dont think. My mates wont anyway but he does have a power dynamo fitted as well so maybe that has an effect on the upgraded CDI's

Yuasa every time. I've had a few friends that have had failed Motobatts. It appears that the links between the plates can fracture and then weld themselves back together, giving an intermittent fault. Each time the issue has been fixed with a Yuasa lead acid.

Small update: Bought a New High Zoot Processor controlled battery charger on Friday (Black Friday sale) for 60$ Has a Desulphate function and the gizmo self detects the need and sets to fixing the problem. Short story; a 4 years on my bench/out of my 350 Battery, a cheap taiwanese one to boot. I set the Nifty charger to it. Damned thing decided the Bat was Sulphated No news there, Visually obvious to me. The thing worked away at the Battery for two whole days, alternating between Desulphate (High Amp; 25 to 50.. Pulses) and regular chargings. This AM the unit readout said the Battery was at 100% capacity.. charging / desulphate cycles had been completed. Damned if all the white frost was gone and a subsequent Load test(by Me) revealed that the thing was "good" I'm Chuffed.
