HI all,
I'm after a bit of guidance on what you all think a good YPVS engine is worth.
I think I've decided to sell my spare engine.
Trouble is I'm not sure on the best way (for me and buyer) of doing it.
Currently it is a pile of bits and maybe 95% complete.
Do I sell in bits so the buyer can see with confidence all the parts are really nice condition, or do i build it up at extra expense and have the buyer unsure of the parts?
Furthermore I was going to spray head, cylinders, top and side case satin black 2k. What if the person buying doesn't want black?
Again I could build up and put in a chassis to show it working, just run it for a minute or so with no coolant as this is what I do anyway to bed in the head gasket?
Really not sure which route to take.
Jon

A hard one to answer, personally as someone who builds their own engines, I'd prefer to see it in bits, but if someone else can't or doesnt have the time, a fully working enging is better for them?? I've got a new crank sitting on a shelf, and been wondering the same over the last few months.

Maybe list it as it is in bits and offer to build it for a fixed fee? That way, the buyer could choose what options they want.

I go with Robs suggestion, plus your a regular member on here with a good reputation. I don't think you would want to ruin that by short changing someone

Thanks guys, I might take some pictures of the parts, and offer several options.
The crank was bought from a forum member on here as a recon that had sat in a project before being broken. It has new rods, TZ bearings etc.
Cylinders are from a running bike on 0.5mm. Power valves and head are execellent.
Cases are 4CE mint cases with perfect gasket faces and threads.
Gearbox, primary and secondary are all nice.

I would sell it as-is on here as I'm sure you'll find a buyer who could and would want to build the motor themselves to their own spec. Unless, someone wants a running motor and is willing to cover your costs of building it. It's a tricky one!

Selling it in big-ish lumps - complete top end; clutch with crank gear; gearbox with selector forks and drum etc will get you around £200-250 more than you would if you built the engine up and sold it complete.

Mark, I know what your saying, and I'm not out to make maximum money, but I had wondered this myself. More to the point there might be 5 people out there that need individual sections but not need a full motor. Trouble is I didn't want to get left with odd bits? if anyone is after a complete top end, crank, or cases and gearbox, flywheel and stator, clutch and pinioned then let me know via PM and it might help me make a decision on how to sell it. From experience , parting out an RZ motor will get you around $1000. in Canada . Selling and shipping a complete one is a pain as it's heavy and require a wooden box plus a shipping company willing to take it , regular mail won't . Not all parts will sell , used crank , side covers and clutch are slow moving items .
