I wonder why Yamaha made the cylinders left and right when they could of been a single casting ,
i beleive the TZ is a single unit .
i dont see a cost saving ?
I asked this on the US site as well.
cheers Mark

:-) TZ cyls were unit cast Because they could then get the max size possible transfer port ducting in there. Only one casting wall Not 2 and zero airspace seperation.. a well worth the effort difference in a designed for race engine. Siamesed Cyls are Mo' Expensive to mfg Not less. Street cyls are lesser products. so Mfg Cost compromises could easily be made. Take a "good" Look at either LC or Valvie barrels. The external Transfer duct bulges are impressively Huge, intentionally so, for impressing the punters Yet the inner side hidden ones are barely there visible. Yet Both ducts Must be equal sized internally. Lotsa Marketing Bumph happening.

Very interesting Bare. I also wondered why TZ's have Siamese cylinders, and is it possible to use them on an LC?
Regards, Aid.

Hi Aid A few guys on the forum have Tz cylinders on their Lc's. Veg, and Trubrit are 2 I can think of Dusty

Thanks Dusty, I would love to see an Lc engine with that mod. I am still not sure on the way I am going to go with my build at the moment. But I do think if I went TZ route I would have to sell my CB900FA. Best regards, Aid.

Veg has certainly done a build thread in the resto section. Not sure if Trubrit has ? Dusty

Yesss TZ cyls are sometimes fitted. But it's a double edged sword. More power than a 'stock' 350. But V pricey and short lived too TZ cyls are chrome plated and they were intended to run single ring pistons .. never intended for either street usage OR many miles At 35 years on, Only Hoarded items are available.. so pricings can be a shocker. Also it's not difficult to get Mo' power out of a Valvie barrel these days. They Look Trick though.

Did Dean from metmachex not have a tz cylinder on his LC
I'd say they were separate for service/warranty cost reasons
Let's face it if/when it had a blow up and was under warranty they would only change one cylinder.
Even the aircooled bikes were individual cylinders where you may think that a mono cylinder would help dissipate heat away from the centre

Anyone got a TZ engine lying about??? 😁 How about this one....with separate cylinders and heads Ferry Brouwer in Holland makes these. Fits TZ and LC's although you'll probably need a very understanding bank manager

Spoke to him late last year and they were still available. I know a couple of people who use them in their race bikes
