Its on the headstock on the right hand side. If its an import it may have a Vin plate riveted to the front of the headstock.

On my air cooled 1979 RD 400 F it is on right hand down tube near yoke. Not sure for newer models. The more experienced chaps will tell you, but this maybe a start

I've heard that the frame numbers can be accidentally hidden/filled in if the frame has been powder coated, could that be the case here?

If it's a UK bike, turning the bars to left would make it easier to see the number I believe. You mention mileage being mentioned in Kph at some point so I have my doubts that you have actually have a UK bike??

Turn the handlebars to the left and you should be able to see the numbers on the right hand side running down over. Powder coat will fill them in so maybe hard to read, but usually they can just be made out.
Do you have a steering lock on the left hand side of the headstock, if so it may be an import that does not have a stamped frame number. If it doesn't have one look for two small holes on the front of the headstock where a vin plate may have been riveted on.

If you look at my website you will find many more pictures of genuine UK 250 and 350 LC's with known history including some of the NOS bikes Padgetts have..

I always thought if even an import they still have number stamped on headstock. Mines an import with genuine number stamped and also little vin plate with steering lock on l/h side.

Hi there, my Swiss 250LC does indeed have the number stamped on the right hand side and a small plate riveted in front of the steering lock.
