I'm wondering is it ok to run a lc for ten minutes at a time without a battery in place.? Years ago i always had a flat battery but it was in situ and had no problems.. Any thoughts.? Tks..

There is a Battery Eliminator by Zeeltronic. It is an electrolyte capacitor (30000-45000uF/25V) and works on most bikes with CDI ignitions, other brands are available, tends to suggest you can run without battery, but need somewhere for the energy to go.

If you unplug the rectifier/regulator, then no damage can be done due to no load. The bike should run without a battery as the high and low speed running coils supply power for the CDI to make the sparks.

Non powervalve LC engines will run fine without a battery and even the 12v circuit for lights is happy. They may just flicker a bit at low revs. On YPVS the powervalve needs a stable supply so the battery eliminator capacitor is needed as a minimum.
