Hopefully some have experience with the use of pod filters and tuning, with the ypvs and motors fitted with Athena barrels. Is one type of filter better than others and do spacers (velocity stacks) help and what length.

yes, stacks do help, 75mm seem to be a good option, not got any data to share, but have seen/heard good results froma racer friend who uses them and played with several different lengths before settling on 75mm
I tend to use ramair filters (all foam ones)

lots online Rob, I used K&Ns on mine, but people say they are hard to tune. I will probably swap to ramairs or similar if i have any issues.
Dave do you have any pics of the setup with stacks?
I really need to space my filters back to start behind the LCs frame spars so something to move the filters back would help as well, Ive not seen filters with a long enough set of, er, 'lips', to do what i need yet.

On the "Ugly Betty" Tzr/pv bike I had, the owner had used plumbing pipe; DSCN2648 by David Miller, on Flickr The issue of not enough room meant he set the filters up through a 90 degree bend !! Looks odd but the pipe fitted the carbs and filter fine. Might help you find something suitable ! Dusty

In what way do filter spacers help? Is it to smooth out the midrange by eliminating unwanted induction pulses? I've currently got Ramairs bolted straight onto standard carbs on a tuned YPVS, but might use spacers if I knew what improvements were to be had. Cheers.

Dusty, My xt500 had a 38mm carb on it with a bodgy mess of plumbing pipe when i got it, the DPO was very proud of what he'd done lol
Alastair, for me I need to clear the frame tubes, but id also like to know more about this topic, anyone know or have links?

sounds like I've another set of tests to do at some point then, will need to find some suitable plumbing fittings and make some stacks up to see how it affects things

Should be interesting when you get around to it Dave. I've heard of benefits in the midrange when using K&N's as they have a solid back and spacing them eliminates waves resonating from the back. Until now I hadn't heard of using them with Ramairs which use foam all around and don't tend to suffer from the same problem, but maybe it's to cure another issue with this type of filter.

Yep defo interested in this set of tests Dave.
Id also like to prove once n for all that K&Ns are the devils work so many people say they are, yet others swear by them. ie is a ramair better or just easier to tune...

I used these, mainly just to clear the filters from the frame, can’t really comment on the performance. Jess ] [/URL]

I run k&n's on my 350 mito 52mm bore ones mounted on spacer tubes , it makes them a lot easier to set up , and gives more mid range power without the resonance stutter
