Ive just discovered my F2 has a dry battery after only fitting a new one a month ago. The thing is the battery has been checked at 14V across the terminals with the engine running. The alternator wires have all been checked and all show the same resistance values. Could it still be a fault with the regulator? How do i test it? Its the non finned type.

Have you thought about fitting or rigging up a small volt meter so that you can see what's going on whilst riding?
I've done this to help diagnose a charging problem on a car, it was most helpful.

I agree with Eartman,that's a good idea and one that I use regularly on cars. But hey, I'm a car mechanic. In my experience, batteries only go dry when they are over charged over a period of time.

Lead acid batteries often have short lives under Brutish/primitive charge systems. Boiling a battery dry indicates serious problem. Your bike needs a new (less faulty) regulator.. Now! Measuring outputs, while nice is a bit late .. the horse has long bolted.

Im going to get a new regulator, i dont trust a 29 year old unit.Good info on one of mini volt meters chaps, going to purchase one.
