Sorry if this is daft question.
Is is there a coolant type that I should use or not use?

Hi use a decent anti freeze and mix 50/50 with distilled water . I have used Unipart anti antifreeze it has a green colour and has a leak seeker.

I may well be corrected but I thought that any colour was fine for an LC. Blue is the "lowest" spec, green medium and red the "best" (it has most additives etc). So yeah really just depends on your budget and philosophy. Think Yam fitted blue as std but that was mayb industry std bk in the day. I use green. Just my tuppence worth may be others that insist you must use a certain type upon pain of death and instant catastrophic engine & surrounding neighbourhood explosion.... yawn

I'm just about to refill my cooling system on my 4L0. I know in a car the coolant is used 'neat', does the same apply to bike engines?
Cheers Rich

From memory you shouldn't use any antifreeze containing methanol, as the cylinders are aluminium and you can fur up the waterways, so normal diluted antifreeze in water is not recommended.
I think it should be the ones with ethylene glycol in them.

Curiously My 600RR came with Blue coolant (standard Honda stuff) Dealer mechs did say that the Moto coolant is not the same as Honda Automobile coolant (fitted as standard) Despite the Blue colouring. Honda's Auto coolant is 5 yr life, Honda Moto coolant is 1 year life... Weird. They surreptitiously suggested a DIY refill with Honda Automobile Coolant.. as clever. Subsequently Refilled with Honda Auto coolant on the RR's 1st B'day.
Coolant Colours tho seem different in North America than in Europe. Green 'here' is the cheap ass stuff, Orange is the long life variety. Blue seemingly only comes in Hondas.

The coolant here in France comes ready to use or so I've read so far. Perhaps it is a 50/50 mix already!? This is the same for cars and bikes.

Just read the label, as it usually says "ready to use" if it is.... :-)
