A new rear tyre appeared today, and shortly afterwards this happened... It feels like a massive step forward. I now just need to find a rear caliper and order some brake hoses, and once the new radiator arrives we're nearly good to give it a kicking. This afternoon was spent trying to strip the battered powder coating off a set of Raask rearsets in readiness to hang a set of ord Microns. It's so close to singing...

Great bike, but was that a three legged dog? Yep, that'll be Ralphie the tripod. He lost it nearly four years ago to evil bone cancer. He's old, deaf and worn out but still turns into a barking puppy when I go anywhere near a bike...

It's been a little quiet over the last week or so as work got in the way a bit, but I've managed to do a little bit here and a little bit there, and the MOT now slowly approaches... The bodywork has been offered up but needs cleaning and fixing properly. It looks much better in the photos than it is, but it's going on for now and will be resprayed once the weather turns. Though this week I think it has already.... Tomorrow, all being well the seat will turn red in readiness for the bodywork turning black. The new rear caliper (thanks to Yogi for that, the front mudguard and cut rear mudguard too) is sat on the kitchen windowsill drying having just been stripped of paint. A rebuild kit for the caliper, a full set of pads and Goodridge hoses are on the way, the tank needs flushing and fitting properly and once I've gone over every nut and bolt again we should be ready for the MOT! That's once I've fitted the indicators, though yesterday I found a random flasher relay in my stock of bits which actually works! I had it running again yesterday and got it up to temperature now that I have a radiator and it sounds wonderfully crisp, though that was on premix as I still need to bleed the oil pump (which opens the "which injector oil" search, though it will also depend on what the little bike shop around the corner sells - he keeps various brands). We're on holiday a fair bit over the coming weeks, though the September Cadwell trackday is starting to look like a possibility!

Hi Great work and fast too Sounds good with the Microns. The Zed in the background looks interesting ?? Dusty Cheers Dusty, I'm self-employed and try to work my socks off through Winter so I can have a slack Summer if I can, and it looks to have worked out this year. The Zed is a US-spec '81 J that I've built into a Lawson rep from that year. It's a work in progress as I don't like to have it off the road for too long as it's such a hoot, though the YPVS build should give me the chance to pull it apart and rebuild it. It needs paint throughout really, and the motor needs rebuilding too as it burns oil, knocks, rattles a leaks but it goes like stink and now likes corners too!

Blimey, less than a month from the start of the thread !! Takes me a month just to think what I'm gonna do next ! Great build - looks lovely, I'm sure the Mot will be a formality then enjoy the rest of the summer on it (if we get one !) Dusty

The Goodridge hoses arrived yesterday along with a stack of stainless flanged hex-head bolts, so the evening was spent in the garage (four hours bleeding the front brake - damn you secret air bubble!). But, it's now ready for the MOT, though not until the end of next week due to 'olidays.
Today I took Mrs Coose to do her CBT (she was successful) and tonight I had a few minutes to bleed the oil pump. Then, this happened. I'm rather happy! 😀
So, new paint later this year and I'll probably change a couple of things that I'm not too happy with, but it's about there.

Cracking f2 , well done. ( love the Zed as well). Cheers! Once the bodywork is resprayed over winter it'll be the cherry on top, though there are a couple of minor things that might end up being done differently. Otherwise, I have to say I'm rather pleased!

90 reasonably steady miles on it now with a couple of squirts towards the red. Other than an overflowing left carb* (fixed at the side of the road, proper old-skool) it's as sweet as a nut! I'll get a few more miles on it, retorque the head, a little plug chop and we're good. It tips in wonderfully and is very comfortable on its lug, though I'm contemplating fitting the standard footrest hangers as I'm not as bendy as I used to be. In the meantime I'm playing with the handlebar position to see if it helps. The Z1000 fork springs seem to work quite well, and the Nitron shock was definitely a good move. *When I had the carbs apart and measured the float heights both were on the high side of the tolerance. A gentle tiny tweak stopped the left carb overflowing, but before I do the plug chop I'll measure the float height again.
