Trying to shoehorn hardened rubber boots into airboxes?
Referring to said boots as f***ing shi**y b*****dthings and scaring the neighbours kids?
Worry no more.
An old army mechanic mate of mine here in Australia introduced me to the wonders of Xylene. I bought a litre of it (probably an eighth of a hogshead for you non-metric luddites) at the local hardware place for $15 (ie about 9 of your English pounds).
Take boots and place in suitable container.
pour in enough xylene to cover them.
Let stand in solution for 12 hours.
Remove from xylene and wonder at the soft plyable nature of the formerly hard boots and ignore comments from wife that it is like you after a 2 for 1 lockin at the local alehouse.
Be temporarily horrified that the boots have actually grown in size (they really do .....unlike you after the alehouse lockin). Just leave them for 24 hours and they shrink back to normal size but retain their suppleness.The good thing about xylene is that it seems to be reasonably permanent. I did the boots on a bike a year ago and they are still as soft as an alky's tadger.
Pour the rest of the (now pinky red) xylene into the tin and keep for the next set.
As an experiment I also tried this on fuel line that had gone hard and nasty. Fixed it right up but I only immersed it for 3 hours.

Emm xylene is a carcinogen, not something I'd want to be playing with
Methyl salicate or Wintergreen oil works just as well
Or, and I'll declare an interest here, Wurth Rubber Care, both a lot less dangerous to your health

I use wintergreen oil and rubbing alcohol, works a treat and is all natural products and even smells nice, if you like the smell of deep heat or vapour rub, or a rugby teams changing room then your laughing !!  |

or you could buy new ones ; tried fitting some new 28mm mikunis to my old crusty carb rubbers ; wouldn't have it . So I ordered some new ones ; went on a treat
