I am just in the throws of sorting out the hybrid I got off Yogi, so after some consideration, have decided to make a few changes and upgrades and since people are always asking about what products do or don't work, I thought I'd create a thread for the mods/upgrades I am going to be doing, whether or not it wants to be in this section or another I am not sure, I'll let the moderators decide Anyway, so to cut to the chase, here is what I've started with, a lovely looking machine, but not run or set up as such So my list of things I am going to be doing/testing are; 1. Change the exhaust system 2. Convert back onto oil pump 3. Fit Vforce 4 reeds 4. Fit Billet inlet manifold 5. Fit Billet head with 21cc domes 6. Fit ignitech 7. Fit power dynamo 8. Maybe fit larger carbs (32mm or 34mm) First off, I've had the exhausts made for it (and then I made some nice stubby silencers !), also some oil tanks made so I can plumb the oil pump in - can you see the oil tanks, they will be joined together using a clear pipe ! I ran the bike up with the exhausts on, its running really lean at the moment, but it did a healthy 59bhp running premix Next steps are to set the carburation up and see where it goes from there, after which I'll get it converted onto the pump, then set about fitting the parts above one at a time and seeing what difference they do I beleive that the engine has had some tuning work done, exactly what is unknown, but I'll take a look when I get to the head change

Ok, sorry for the long wait on the update (Some of you will be really fat eating all that popcorn while you waited !! ), so managed to get a few jobs done and some more testing, so first off I converted the bike back onto oil pump, my neat solution works a treat If you can't see it, look at the ends of the radiator ! Anyway, next up was to put the bike back on the dyno, check it and then fit the VForce4 reeds, the results are below and speak for themselves really First off, I removed the current reed blocks, was running stock steel reeds etc, and this is them next to the VForce4 After fitting everything back, as you can see no fiddling, 30 mins to remove and fit the reed blocks etc, the dyno runs below So the Vforce4 reeds actually do work, and really well, they have picked up the whole power curve and made an extra 3.2bhp and pretty much all the way and some extra torgue as well, so do they work, absolutely, are they worth the cost.........only you can decide that ! The other thing to note is that they cleaned up the little hiccup the bike had around 4500rpm to 5000 rpm, I only fitted the VForce4's, didn't do any other adjustments, not even the air screws So that's one mod that works, next up will be the billet inlet manifold, so watch this space.........

Billet reed blocks arrant a performance mod though they are just for fitting bigger carbs as the rubbers are bigger so i dont expect they will do a lot but be interesting to see if they do anything, Actualy i have some very trick reed blocks im finishing of next week i may send a set to you for a test run to se how they compare to the V force .

Hi Mutts is it also possible to publish the torque figure's with the tests

Post by marsbar350 on Aug 10, 2017 12:22:18 GMT 1
on my 392 the ftlbs of torque was 44 compared to 39 all throught the rev range with the Vforce 4s fitted

Norbo, if you send me a set I can test them, the bike is currently in a state to allow it, once I button it all back up, then not so easy, but right now, its an easy job to swap, got the billet manifold, so will be trying that next, I am not expecting great things from it, more bling and ease of carb swapping/fitting larger carbs etc, but worth testing since I am doing it anyway

John Warrington always said if you can get 1extra bhp for £100 then it's cheap so seems the v force reeds are worth the money

Oil tanks a one off are they ? yes, they are hand made to fit the bike, was the best solution I could come up with at the time that looked right on the bike !

Keep up the good work. :-)
Has anyone looked into the lifespan of the Vforce reeds, as have seen reports on Banshee websites that they wear out quickly and you need to change the petals every 100 hours use or so?

I had read the V2 was a very good reed but fell to pieces causing damage to the engine, the V3 was reliable but not so good as the V2 and the V4 is almost the same as the V2 and reliable. I have a set of V3 reeds and they performed almost the same as the V4 reeds (dare I say it a little more)
You can see it on my dyno read out. There are two lines a reddish colour line and a purple line. The red line is standard reeds and the purple line was only the V3 reeds fitted. It was not back to back as there was about a week in between runs (so that could have some influence), but nothing changed not even tire pressure.
The dyno-graph is about 3/4 down the page. If you want to see it click HERE

Hello Mutts
this is an excellent and really useful thread, well done, can't wait to see results.
If i get you to make some pipes for me in the future, do you have to have the bike for fitment? If you did need it, I could van it up to you. It would be a YPVS LC2 but with a different swingarm and rearsets?
Cheers
